Won't see midwife before 1st scan...

I saw GP at 8 weeks and have my 12 week scan at 12+5... Which is exactly 2 weeks today. Next week I'm on holiday... I haven't seen a midwife yet & not had an appointment letter. It's looking unlikely I'm going to see a midwife before my scan... And I won't have any notes to take with me... Is this ok? I did ring community midwives & spoke to someone who said she'd pass on the message to the midwife for my Drs. It's worrying me & I don't know why!!!!!

Where I live you don't see anyone, Doctor or Midwife until the 12 week scan, so don't worry. As for the notes I was given the file before hand as there was a lot I had to fill in myself, then a midwife did the rest after my scan. Have you been given your maternity record/notes yet? Its normal to worry about everything I think!

I didn't see a single person, not even my GP until my 12 week scan. I think it's the norm here in Wales. First saw my midwife at GP surgery at 16 weeks! There's not really much that can be done/said before 12 week scan anyway! Don't worry x

Exactly what sadPander said :-)

They will probably do your booking in at the hospital at the same time as your scan - don't worry :)

SadPander · 22/10/2013 20:53

Yes I'm in Wales too Apple , I felt very left out when everyone was getting GP and booking in appointments and I had nothing till 12 weeks - it seemed like a really long wait!

Applepiesky · 22/10/2013 20:59

sadpander Yeah I agree! I was completely dismissed by the receptionist when I called to make an appointment with the GP as I was pregnant! She said in the most condescending voice - "Oh! The doctor wouldn't see you for THAT!!" And I basically had to ask her what I was to do as I didn't have a clue?! I eventually called in to the surgery and they gave me a pack with a shit load of pointless leaflets and my notes booklet thingy.
Looking back, I understand why they do it like that. There really is no need to see a GP or midwife until 12 weeks, would you agree?
I seem to remember you are due similar time to me as we crossed paths a few weeks ago in a different thread!

Bump

SadPander · 23/10/2013 16:25

Oh yes Apple I totally agree in retrospect that there was no real need for an appointment before the scan, and don't feel like I missed out at all - so please don't worry MrsRV. Its frustrating to miss out when everyone else seems to be getting this early recognition of their pregnancy and you're not, but at 31 weeks I'm now sick of seeing the midwife and feel like I'm never out of the GP's surgery!

Hope you're doing well Apple when are you due? (sorry to hijack thread OP!)

None of you were seen by a midwife before your 12 week scan?! I had to be seen before...mainly because I needed my blood forms for the Down's syndrome test and other routine tests that I had opted in for.

Congratulations though! SmileThanks

SadPander · 23/10/2013 19:24

Hi K8ee no nothing before the 12 week scan - I was given a pack with my notes (with lots to fill in) and some info on screening by the GP receptionist before hand. They only test for downs with the blood test in wales, at 16 weeks, so there was nothing that needed consenting to before the 12 week scan. They did the booking in and bloods for other routine tests after the scan.
