Does the midwife check for dilation at your check ups??

Hi
I am going for my 36 weeks check and just wondering if the midwife will start checking if I am dilating yet?
Do they even do this? Or do they just leave you until you actually go into labour?
I only ask because I am sure I have lost some of my mucus plug and would like to know for sure what's happening down there.
Thanks in advance for replies x

No, they don't.

I suppose it depends on the midwife but I don't think they would routinely do this at a 36wk check-up. However I expect she would do it if you asked.

I'm 36 weeks with my fourth DC and I've never been checked with any of my pregnancies for dilation.

I've never been checked for dilation, ever, and I have two children (four pregnancies)

CrispyFB · 22/10/2013 15:40

Lots of Americans get checked for all of that.. generally here in the UK they don't!

princesscupcakemummyb · 22/10/2013 17:01

nope never been checked yet im getting my sweep though next week 29th october

Frecklesandspecs · 22/10/2013 17:06

no I'm due next week and not been checked at all.
don't think they do it until you turn up in labour here.

Fakebook · 22/10/2013 17:08

No. I think it's routine in America though. Personally I'd hate having fingers shoved up my vagina at every appointment just to see how far along I am. The baby will come when it comes.

Firsttimemom2013 · 22/10/2013 17:10

Didn't have an examination until my first sweep last week at 40 weeks x

Excited85 · 22/10/2013 17:24

Am 40+4 and have never been checked, sorry! Would be very interested to know though as all this waiting around is driving me crazy!

BummyMummy77 · 22/10/2013 17:53

They do it here in the States. Constantly. Also did a full internal, pelvic exam and pap smear when I was 8 weeks. Didn't feel right.

I'm having a home birth though and when asked my midwives today why they don't they said because it's ridiculous and stupid and dangerous. Ok then lol.
