Does this sound like Braxton hicks??

Might be a stupid question but what do they feel like?
I keep getting a pain which feels like a mixture of my stomach tightening and period pains and at the same time my stomach goes really hard! As this is my first baby I'm not sure what things feel like and I am assuming its Braxton hicks as although they can be quite painful and stop me in my tracks they aren't agony or regular.
Any advice would be great as I'm assuming its nothing and don't want to miss something that should be checked out xx

They could be braxton hicks - how far gone are you?

I'm 34+5 and have been getting them for a while now. They definitely feel like tightening of the bump but I don't get period pains with them. It's just an odd sensation for me. I occassionally get a shooting pain in my groin but mw said it's because baby is on a nerve Sad

I would give your mw a call in the morning and explain it to her so she can clarify/reassure you.

I am 36 weeks if you go by the hospital dates and 37 if I go by my own dates as I really believe their dates are wrong as I know when I conceived.
I also get the shooting pains in my groin but out this down to my SPD. Xx

Should I call mw about this or is it normal? X

My BH were very painful - like bad period pains - and would wake me up in the middle of the night. I had them from about 33 weeks. DD didn't appear til 42+1.

Unless you can time them and they are very regular, I wouldn't phone the midwife.

Excited2meetmyprincess · 20/10/2013 23:23

Thanks. They aren't regular just painful. Will just see how it goes next few days as seeing midwife on Thursday anyway x

One of my friends had this and also thought she was having Braxton hicks but was in fact in early labour. They started on the Tuesday and she had her little girl on the Sunday. So you never know, just watch for them becoming regular:) xXx

Excited2meetmyprincess · 21/10/2013 10:46

Ooh I would love this!!! Haha.
I will keep a check on them thank you. They seem to be getting stronger but not more regular. I'm going to see how they go today and if they keep getting stronger I will ring my midwife and see what she says x

Yes, definitely sounds like BH. Mine came every 2 hours without a break from 37 weeks. Then at 40+2 one felt much worse & ta dah! Labour.

It could be a while yet, don't stress about it. try & rest as much as you can, especially if they do continue, as you're clearly getting ready for labour.

Thanks lego I am booked in for a c section in three weeks time so either way I know my baby is going to be here then but I have a strong feeling it will be earlier than that. I am chilling out today as the pains are quite bad and I can't really focus on anything properly x

So I went to bed at two and only woke up at five but since I have woken up the pains are so much stronger and lasting longer but they still aren't in any regular pattern!! Agh this is driving me crazy!! X

How are you getting on? Any more regular yet? So exciting!! Xx

polkadotsrock · 22/10/2013 11:47

Mine only seem to come at night, for about 2 hours, I just start to believe this could be it...and then they stop. Making me crazy!!

Excited2meetmyprincess · 22/10/2013 12:49

No they seem to have stopped again now. I just wish it would start properly really had enough now!
Feel like crap today! Fainted and feel really dizzy all the time and keep getting spots flashing in my eyes. DH wants me to wait until I see midwife on Thursday rather than going to hospital today as he thinks they will just send me home but I am totally stressing out and just want it all sorting so I can have my baby and feel better xx

Are you taking iron supplements Excited? Sounds like you could be anaemic if you're seeng spots and fainting. I would definitely at least call your midwife if you don't want to go in - not to panic you but they could also be signs of pre-eclampsia so don't ignore them if you continue to feel unwell.

Excited2meetmyprincess · 22/10/2013 15:19

Yeah I already take the supplements as I wasn't feel great a couple of weeks ago but they don't seem to make any difference to how I feel.
The pre eclampsia is the thing that is worrying me most. I am just taking it easy at the moment and see how it goes for rest of the day xx

Phone triage Hun, don't leave till Thursday if you've got vision problems. Even if you go up and they send you away it's not a wasted trip to be checked over. My sisters a midwife and it's one of the main thigs she has told me to look out for with pre-e and a headache that is right at the front of your head. No harm in phoning to see what the hospital says. xXx

Excited2meetmyprincess · 22/10/2013 21:22

Taken myself off to bed now and falling asleep as shattered but going to phone first thing and get checked out. Like you say no harm in getting checked xx

Excited2meetmyprincess · 22/10/2013 21:44
