Severe cramps in early pregnancy

I am 35 yrs old and this is my first pregnancy. I am a little ambivalent about the pregnancy, purely for the reason that my parents will be annoyed as my partner and I are unmarried- I dread telling them.

I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing dull cramping (menstrual-like) and bloating, but last night I woke at 2.30 with severe cramps- so bad that I thought I was going to have to call an ambulance (my partner is working away and I haven't actually seen him since I found out we were having a baby). The pain caused me to break out in a cold sweat and I ended up writhing on the bathroom floor. I also had an episode of diarrhoea during it. After 20-30 mins the pain suddenly settled and I've been ok since. I contacted the out of hours GP who was not particularly helpful and said that I wasn't bleeding it should be ok. I just wonder has anyone else had a similar experience and what caused it? Is the a warning of a miscarriage?

In my m/c I had no warnings just suddenly started to bleed at 10 weeks baby had stopped growing at around 7 weeks the cramps came after when my body was pushing out the pregnancy, I also had missed mc at 12 weeks but had to have d&c, sounds like a short bout of diarrhea to me but I'm not an expert, if your still worried ring epau or midwife good luck x

When I first got pregnant I had all sorts of aches and pains. It felt like I was constantly about to come on my period from 4 to 8 weeks and I used to get incredibly sharp cramps that woke me up in the night crying in pain. As it's your first baby it could just be your body beginning to stretch.
I think the general rule is that cramps are okay, bleeding is also okay but cramps and bleeding together are not okay. If you feel worried perhaps go see your GP to see if they can refer you to your local EPU (early pregnancy unit) where you will be given an early scan? Some EPU's also let you self refer but not all do (mine didn't)
After my awful cramping at the beginning and being convinced it was all over before it had even begun, I am now 24+5 currently being kicked :)
Good luck and congratulations! Flowers

Oh and just to add I also had random episodes of diarrhoea during early pregnancy. It's just your body adjusting to all the hormones I think, it can make your digestive system go a bit funny.

I had exactly the same early in this pregnancy, it was just my body stretching to accommodate the baby, I'm now nearly 33 weeks and all is well!
