Sometimes but not always I'm suffering with constipation and doctor prescribed fibre gel. It's ok but takes a while to work and gives me bad wind more than anything. Just wondered if lactolose would be a bit better?? The pains I'm my stomach when this flares up is awful :(

I swear by Prune Juice. Diluted with water just before bed. Powerful and works a treat every time Smile xxx

CrispyFB · 13/10/2013 16:35

Do both. Note: I am not a doctor!! I have no idea if that is sane advice!

I've had horrendous constipation this pregnancy and found that Fybogel did nothing this time.

What I have found has worked for me is lactulose in the evening, and Movicol during the day. Laculose on its own seemed to do not quite enough, and I admit I never tried Movicol on its own either at any point. But - whatever I am doing now works and things are "normal" in that department. I no longer feel like I am walking about with a bag of rocks in my abdomen and in pain when I sit down.. and never mind the wind, argh.

All about prune juice - miracle stuff - I tried this before the lactulose I had been prescribed and NEVER needed to take it! Takes awful but works a treat!

emmac3616 · 13/10/2013 16:46

Tastes!

FraggleRock77 · 13/10/2013 17:02

If you dilute it in lots of water to prune juice or the 'pooh juice' as my DH calls it tastes sooo much better. I also read on here about heating it up a little for faster relief!!! ShockX

FraggleRock77 · 13/10/2013 17:08

The prune juice! Typo x

Lactulose is a softener, makes it less painful when you 'go'. Fibre makes you go. So take both as they do different things! Try drinking Lots of water as liquid helps too, as well as walking about. I sympathise, it's horrid!

Madratlady · 13/10/2013 17:41

Start small with the lactulose or you'll have an explosion. Don't be tempted to take a huge dose to make you 'go' sooner!

I have really suffered this pregnancy (am 22 weeks) so I finally went to the doctor last week and he has prescribed Movicol which is working pretty good at the moment! I didn't have nay luck with Lactulose it just ended up giving me horrendous trapped wind.

blondebaby111 · 13/10/2013 18:33

It's awful!! I think it's the trapped wind that comes with it that's worse than anything, I have to hold my breath, suppose is a bit like a contraction but obviously I know it isn't. It doesn't matter how many veggies or fruit I eat either it just makes no difference,I'll give the prune juice a try as we'll too . Thanx everyone for the advice ??
