Did you poo a lot before labour?

Midwife came out last week and noticed bump had dropped, bump looked as though it had dropped before she mentioned it though.

She said hes not engaged, but that can happen when I go into labour so its nothing to worry about. Today I can hardly walk, it feels like hes dropped even more, if that's at all possible! and since midwife has been to see us I've been pooing like a bloody trooper!!!

If you pooed a lot before labour, how long was it before it actually started?

38 weeks with my second.

My waters broke and about 30 mins later i thought i was going to shit myself. So for me labour had already kind of started.

Herisson · 09/10/2013 13:10

Yes, I did! And the answer to 'how long before it started' is 'not very long at all'! I had a night where I had terrible diarrhoea (thought I had a bug), felt sick, stomach cramps, generally felt appalling. Then a day of feeling OK but desperate to sleep. The next day I had a baby.

SweetTeaVodka · 09/10/2013 13:15

Not before labour no, but during labour I pooed and pooed and pooed - didn't know I was that backed up! Blush DD followed about half an hour later - I had a quick labour though!

SweetTeaVodka · 09/10/2013 13:17

Oh, and the day/night before I went into labour I was full of a calm restlessness, if that makes sense. I felt very serene but wanted to be moving and doing things constantly - not in a manic way, in a quiet and purposeful way. In hindsight I think it was nesting. The serenity gave way when the contractions picked up though, haha Grin

Yes, within the twelve hours before labour. Went from constipation to almost diarrhoea. Read somewhere is the body's natural enema, which is why they don't give you one at hospital any more (they did in my mum's time 40 yrs ago)

pokesandprodsforthelasttime · 09/10/2013 13:23

No not at all.

I projectile vomited before, and all the way through instead.

SmeeHee · 09/10/2013 13:45

Nope. And during my 2nd labour I was informed by the midwife that I had a "loaded rectum"! Shock

Apparently my body shuts down my digestive system when I go into labour as, despite a considerable amount of effort, I was unsuccessful in unloading my rectum prior to DS2's arrival. Obviously I may have unloaded during the pushing stage, as apparently often happens, but judging by the traumatic experience I had when back home the day after DS's birth I suspect that this was not the case!

I have struggled to poo throughout the pregnancy and at 38+3 I am finally managing to go! Midwife told me todaythat it is common as your body has a clear out before labour. Hopefully it wont be long!!

SleepingWithABrokenHeart · 09/10/2013 17:04

Well I do feel like absolute shit, but I'm full of cold so that doesn't really help! Hope he waits until I'm better at least lol.

Yes. I was completely empty by the time I went into labour.

Monkeyandanimal · 10/10/2013 08:10

yes i did an enormous and very easy poo the afternoon before going in to labour with DS2. It was giant! and a real contrast to the pain and constipation of the previous months, so felt like a real sign of something happening!

Shootingatpigeons · 10/10/2013 08:14

Don't know about body clearing out before labour. Another here who had a clear out during labour, whilst pushing, on the delivery mat! With both of mine, mortified. Midwives used to it and very discreet.

IndecisivePramBuyer81 · 10/10/2013 08:39

Yes here! I had a sore bum by the time labour started! I think it was from about 2 or 3 days before

plentyofsoap · 10/10/2013 12:00

Yes; though I had a bug. Waters went next day.

Peacenquiet2 · 10/10/2013 23:08

Yep me to. Crapped for england with explosive poop about 3 am and had the baby (dc2) by 8 am. With dc1 i really needed it but couldnt sit still long enough to manage one due to rapid contractions so i pooped in labour instead :-\

SleepingWithABrokenHeart · 11/10/2013 10:14

Ah well, this went on for about a week and I'm not too bad now. No other signs of him comming either.. I still have 2 weeks to go lol but I just want to meet my little man!!

I did in the hours before going into labour with all three of mine.

rachyconks · 11/10/2013 10:20

Thought I had a bug, running to the loo from after dinner to just before bedtime. Waters broke at 3am.
