Fed up of the old wives tales...

Anyone else fed up of the old wives tales and how everyone has an opinion on your bump?
We have chosen not to find out the sex of our baby but people constantly feel they have to guess that "it's definitely a boy cos you're carrying low" or "it's definitely a girl cos you've developed a sweet tooth".... And so on!

In my eyes it's a 50/50 chance and we chose not to find out for a reason, so why everyone has to have their two pence worth is beyond me!

This is a light hearted post by the way people. Don't wanna come under any scrutiny! ;-) I'm 29+3 btw :-)

I didn't find out the sex either and rather enjoyed all the ridiculous theories and predictions. Ended up with about 50% predicting boy and 50% predicting girl...

Everyone seems to be predicting a boy with us! Cos they're experts, obviously...

I think that this is a way of preparing for the fact that when you have children everyone has something to say about how you do things.

In the same way that you have to get up three times a night to go to the loo when you are pregnant to prepare for getting up when the baby does.

It's natures way of getting you used to the endless opinions on your parenting.

People are just excited for you, and if you don't find out the sex then it sort of comes with the territory that people will speculate. Try to enjoy it and see it for what it is; a bit of fun. We didn't find out the sex either and I loved the not knowing and the speculation from friends and family that came with it. It seemed the general consensus with my bump was that it was a boy. Got the shock of my life (in a very good way!) when DD popped out....and so did everyone else.

Everyone persuaded me to do the spinning needle test at work - with ds being a boy, girl, boy and dd being a boy, boy, boy (best of 3 they said).

It's just like names. Everyone has an opinion. I do wish people stopped thinking they had a right to touch your bump though.

people keep patting my stomach. I tske grest delight im telling them that they are actually patting my breakfast. Being 17 weeks the baby is still south of the waistline!

Yeah like I said, it is a light hearted post, honestly! :-) so I can understand it's peoples excitement that causes then so speculate.... I guess ;-)

I don't mind people touching my bump at all. I think it's lovely. If a stranger did it tho, i would have something to say.

I am sick of old wives tales! Due soon and DP has built our pram up and my neighbour can't help but repeatedly tell me that it's such bad luck to have pram built in house before baby is here... She reminds me EVERY time I see her, I want to punch her, in the face...repeatedly

everyone insisted i was having a boy got my scan and found out am having girl. as for names ive learned to say nothing cause everyone has their opinions. am also fed up with the weekly assessment of my bump i get from work colleagues on a monday morn even though they last seen me two days previous grrr (tad hormonal today)

Oh yes I've been finding them hilarious. We did find out the sex of our baby but in the weeks leading up I was told smugly by many people I was definitely having a boy because of the way I'm carrying etc.
We're having a girl it was fun to tell them.

Wow the pram thing... I've had my pram built since I was about 14 weeks as we go it second hand so it's been sat in the corner lol..

I haven't listened to any or all the old wives tales.. What will be will be...

I had a deep feeling that we are having a girl.. Everyone told me it was definitely a boy... We weren't going to find out but then changed our minds.... We are having a girl due 21st December :)

I'm having a girl but no-one knows, it's quite amusing when people say its defo a boy by looking at my bump

I've been told its deffo a girl as I've put weight on round my bum and hips but then I've been told it must be a boy as your all upfront and haven't out weight on anywhere else.

Go figure, either I have or I haven't lol!! I love to keep people guessing!!!

I know what you mean! I don't even know why it annoys me but it does.

My colleague had two identical pregnancies and had a boy, then a girl.

I thought boy at first, then girl, now boy again - maybe it is twins!

I want to find out the sex then not tell any one and be slightly smug. But I very much doubt I could keep quite for long lol

Perhaps the boy/girl thing is because unless you're a close friend or partner there isn't much else to chat about re: pregnancy which constitutes polite chat in mixed company

Big family get together yesterday, big mix of ages, both genders. Last time we were all together the chat was all about boy or girl. This time it was all about the fact that we now know, lol.

But what else could we have talked about ...

• the fact that when i sneeze a bit of pee comes out?
• the fact that DH has had to go gently lately when we have sex?
• the fact that my boobs have grown less than last time, but get sweatier for some reason?
• and that i'm windier and the fact that i woke myself up with a fart last night?

None of the above would have made polite chit chat over the family meal.

I have yellow wee. This means I am having a boy apparently.

I think it's more to do with the vitamins

The same colleague at work told me that dietary advice during pregnancy was ALL rubbish, I was being precious and that she drank/smoked through her pregnancies also expressed outright HORROR that I had a pram in the house at 20 weeks.

I wasn't even massively over zealous with diet if I'm honest...I once had pate but this made me both chuckle and .
