I'm 23+5 with DC1 but my bump is massive.

All week I've had a slew of comments from colleagues/neighbours along the lines of 'Gosh, you've got really big already". When I tell people i'm not due until the end of Jan they look really shocked. Worried I'm never going to get my figure back, or I'm going to give birth to a 10lb bruiser (I've already put on 18lbs...) I know hormones are not helping but just want to tell everyone to fuck off and have a really big blub....

Anyone else feeling the same? Misery loves company....

Most people feel like this at some point. Just remind yourself it's temporary and you get a lovely baby at the end.
I had a huge bump with DS1 and he was under 6lb. Hold on in there. Thanks

Don't worry- I feel exactly the same and have done for ages! I'm 32 weeks now but since about 20 weeks have had the 'ground shakes when you walk ' , ' are you going to give birth to a 5 year old' , ' you must be due earlier than you think' comments etc etc! Last time I weighed myself I'd put on 24 pounds and that was weeks ago and have decided not to check anymore as was just making me miserable! I'm now actually a lot happier and know that it will be a struggle , but will just worry about my weight once given birth. I was a size 12 before being pregnant and am just hoping I can get my waist back at some point but for the being am just happy knowing baby is healthy and growing as it should be. Sod everyone else's flattery I say ;)

Maybe a, "What a fucking rude thing to say to someone!" Comment is needed? Then if people get upset, put it down to hormones and just smile? I'm known for being a bit fierce (lol) so no one has dared be horrible or insensitive apart from one bitch woman. I have even threatened a few people with unleashing my hormonal self on them if they dare speak out of line!

People think you are fair game if you are pregnant and it's just not on.

EeyoreIsh · 05/10/2013 19:42

Some people are just rude. Every bump is different and grows at a different rate. It's really not for them to comment.

I'm sure you don't look like a whale. You probably look gorgeous and healthy Flowers.

I think some people feel the need to comment regardless of the actual bump size. I've got the opposite problem in that I haven't put on any weight (22+6) and my bump is tiny. So I get questions about am I really due in four months, how my bump is tiny, how I've lots of space in my maternity clothes. It annoys me but i'm learning to let it wash over me.

MyBigShoutingDay · 05/10/2013 20:17

These sorts of comments are so intrusive. I sympathise with you OP, what women wants to hear how massive they are???

I'm pregnant with DC2 and very hormonal. I've snapped at a few people who were scrunitising me in the most humiliating way recently. (Then I went into my office and cried!). Think my over the top reaction has scared them a bit as the comments have been much reduced this week! Plus I actually had an apology from one person.

Sometimes people need to know that they've upset you. Perhaps you could say something like "Please can you not make any more comments about my size, you're making me feel really crap about myself".

Oceansurf · 05/10/2013 20:18

My bump was huge. Baby was 6lb. Go figure! Sod them!

BabyLabyrinth · 05/10/2013 20:28

I'm 21+2 and massive, too. I've put on 6.5 kg, feel wobbly and bloated, and look like I'm due next month, not February. Everyone asks me the usual: Is it twins? Are you sure you've got your dates right? You'll never make full term!

It's driving me bonkers. I laugh and say I must just make big babies, but really I want to cry. Think I'm going to try some of these suggestions for making them shut up.

MrsPatMustard · 05/10/2013 21:44

Thanks Ladies - normally I try and shrug it off but it all got a bit much today....appreciate your support.

I'm not used to my size/shape being discussed in so much detail by everyone around me. zenadog is right, people seem to think you're fair game when you're pregnant...

Screw them, be proud :)

Sorry you have experienced this OP. it's so sad that pregnant women receive these sorts of comments and it ruins what should be a special and amazing experience. Why on earth do people feel the need to comment on the size of the bump? And then after baby is born on how quickly/slowly you're losing the weight. I for one am going to tell every pregnant women I talk to how beautiful and glowing she looks!
Have a look at this link - it reminds me what we're doing it all for!

Hyperhelpmum · 06/10/2013 07:53

A few weeks ago I had this. Now it's all 'you're so neat and compact' people are just odd about bumps and should butt out! Chin up OP. I dread seeing some people who comment but gave actually worked out all those who do have weight issues themselves ie struggled with bring big or are unhealthily skinny and emaciated. Their issue not ours.

PinkWitch803 · 06/10/2013 08:21

I agree with Hyper too. I had exactly the same. Now I am 'neat'.

In a couple of weeks I am sure I will get, 'bet you can't wait' 'you are massive' etc.

And I shall respond, as I have from day one, with "thank you, i am having a lovely pregnancy and looking forward to meeting the little one, but making the most of the experience of growing a person as I can"

As I said earlier, screw them, be proud :)

Hopefully · 06/10/2013 09:06

I started responding with a really passive aggressive smiley 'wow, you look really fat today'. It was so nasty but I got really bored with it! FWIW I wasn't that huge bump-wise with DS1 and he was nearly 10lbs and I measured big throughout with DS2 and he was 7lb12oz .
