If you had your first baby around 37 weeks when did you have your second?

So, I had my daughter at 37+4. Spontaneous labour, 7lbs 6ozs of very ready to be born baby. We were certain of our dates.

Now 38+2 with number two and very impatient. Been having a show on and off for a couple of weeks, mild contractions every evening. Keep thinking 'this is it' and then nothing (which I know is totally normal for 2nd babies).

Need some perspective from others who had one baby a little earlier than anticipated as driving self slightly mad. Did your second baby come around the same time, a bit later, on the due date, after the due date???

p.s. I know this is totally unscientific!

Hi Carcassonne,

I was dead certain of my dates every time yet DS1 was 9 days early, DS2 again 9 days early (weighing over 10lb!) and DS3 was exactly 2 weeks early (9lb 1oz!). With DS3 I had a show at 36+5 and contractions on and off for over a week before he finally put in an appearance. Bearing in mind this was all around 20 years ago when the main method of calculating due dates was add 9 months plus 7 days to the date of your lmp!

Now pregnant with surprise DC4 and the hospital have already moved my due date forward by 11 days so very curious to see where baby turns up in relation to this new scientific method of calculating the EDD!

Think I will go barmy if I go over having been used to all these early babies so can understand your frustration, but it sounds as if you're ready to go at any moment so try not to stress too much! Lots of luck Smile

Ooh interesting one I'll be keeping an eye on this!

My ds was born 38+4 and a quick 5 hour labour beginning to end. I'm now 37+5 with dc2 and thinking that every movement or niggle is the start of things. It's driving me mad! x

kissmyshineymetalass · 24/09/2013 15:59

I had my first at 37+5, I had my second at 41+2

Not what I wanted to hear metalass!

My first was 37 weeks exactly and my second was on his due date.

SaskiaRembrandtVampireHunter · 24/09/2013 16:46

My first was born at 36 weeks, and like insanity my second arrived on his due date.

midori1999 · 24/09/2013 17:31

My first was born at 40 weeks, not 37, but DC 2 was born at 38 weeks exactly, DC 3 at 37+3, DC 4 and 5 at 24 weeks after complications and DC6 at 37+6.

I'm currently 37+1 with DC7 and assuming (hoping) I won't go past 38 weeks this time either, although I'm supposed to be induced if I do anyway, but that's a whole other discussion....

38+0 and 39+2.

I know someone who had 38 then 42 weeks. She wasn't impressed.

BikeRunSki · 24/09/2013 18:18

37+5
39+0

Thanks all-this is helping me work on my patience levels!

Gave birth at 37 weeks with DS1 and then was v grumpy after 37 weeks with DS2 as I felt he was "late"! He arrived at 40+1

clr2014 · 25/09/2013 07:44

First was 38+2

Second was 40 + 4 !!!

apperleydapperley · 25/09/2013 10:14

First one was 37+5, second was 40+6. I got so impatient and fed up second time round - I think once you reach the point you had your first then mentally you are at term and feel like anything after is overdue. Currently 38 + 2 with DC3 so going to tell myself 41 weeks is likely and then anything earlier is a bonus!!
