Cyst found on ovary at my 7 week scan

Hiya

So my seven week reassurance scan went well a heartbeat was found but the lady told me there is a small cyst on my right ovary which should dissolve by my next scan. However I've got children and I've had a couple of scans with bad news but never been told this before. Does anyone else have experience of this? As its completely new to me! Thanx

Had a large cyst on my right ovary, found at 8 week scan on last pg. It got bigger, and then by the 20 week scan it had disappeared!

Terribly common apparently and nothing to worry about. Something to do with hormones.

andadietcoke · 21/09/2013 15:22

Yes, I had the same. It had gone by a private 10-week scan. Nothing to worry about.

Oh and congrats Flowers Got my own 7 week scan next week, so I know what a relief it is to get a heartbeat!

I had a large cyst on my left ovary. It increased and decreased in size throughout my pregnancy. As mine didn't disappear, I had it surgically removed when DS was 6mo.

Please don't worry about this as it is very common. Congratulations on your pregnancy.Smile

I had this at 9 weeks with DS, told it was very likely to be where the egg had been released and it would disappear by 12 week scan- it did. this

Thanx girls you've really made me feel better looks like its more common than I thought :)

Good luck with your scan oceansurf its the worst wait ever but at least we don't have to wait for the 12 week scan xx

when I had my 7 week scan I was told I had a larger cyst on my left ovary and two smaller cysts on my right. I was told it can be very common during early pregnancy and they would probably disappear by the time I had my 12 week scan.

When I had my 12 week scan the sonographer said she couldn't see any cysts Smile

Congratulations on your pregnancy x

I had a cyst show up on my first scan with dd2, was told it was nothing to worry about and its quite common in early pregnancy. That was 8 years ago, I had a healthy dd2. I think the cyst had gone by my 20 week scan but now (8 years later) I have several cysts which showed up on a recent scan.

SeriousStuff · 21/09/2013 16:26

I had the same at my 6 week scan - it was huge! Apparently it's down to your hormone surge. By my 12 week scan it had completely disappeared. A lot of women get them at the early stage, but because they tend to disappear by 12 weeks (when most women have their first scans) they're none the wiser.

But as they've spotted one early with you, they'll just keep an eye on it and will make a point of checking it at your next scan. Nothing to worry about.

SeriousStuff · 21/09/2013 16:26

...forgot to say, I'm 37+1 today and there has been no sign of the cyst since.

TeaandHobnobs · 21/09/2013 16:31

I had the same as Roses - picked up at 6 week scan (due to severe pain), about the size of a grapefruit, stayed the same at 12-week scan but gone by 20-week scan.

princesscupcakemummyb · 21/09/2013 17:04

hi 27mummmy2boys i had that in one of my pregnancys it had gone by the time i had my 12 week scan

TruJay · 21/09/2013 19:45

I have had my ovarian cysts since I was 16, had a gynae referral due to abdominal pain and they were discovered on a scan, 2 on my right side and one on on left. Over time the ones on my right hand side have both burst and regrown, sounds delightful I know! But my left one has never gone away just increased and decreased in size.

I carried my son to term with my cyst being there throughout and it never caused a problem and I'm 34 weeks with current bump and the cyst is the largest it has ever been but still causing no problems at all. So even if it hasn't gone by your next scan, don't worry as in my experience it hasn't caused any issues, you may just be monitored to keep an eye on the size of it but if it isn't causing u pain then don't worry x

27mummmy2boys · 21/09/2013 20:17

Thanks everyone fingers crossed it disappears but I'm not as worried now if its still there on my next scan as it may not cause a problem! :) xx

I had 3 cysts at 7 weeks - 2 old ones (big -3cm each) and one smaller one. The smaller one burst and dissolved by 11 weeks but the other two remain. They're keeping an eye on them but waiting until after birth to investigate further (25 weeks now). As long as they're not growing and no pain then they're happy I think. Hope this reassures!

I have a corpus luteum cyst which is just left from where the fertilised egg was released. Apparantly the hormones from the cyst can be beneficial to a pregnancy and can be seen as feeding the pregnancy. I did feel extra sick, maybe this was why. Corpus luteum cysts are very very common. They will just want to check that it's not grown at the next scan.
