Can anyone help me please? HPT +ves followed by -ves

Hi all, i'm looking for a little re-assurance/possible explanations for this as I'm driving myself mad here...

Faint +ve on Tesco HPT (not digital) 29/8, getting stronger on 30/8 and 31/8. Implantation bleed 2/9 followed by +ve with 1-2wks on clear blue digital 4/9 - DP and I both overjoyed!

Experienced extreme tiredness, stuffy nose and constant sneezing all last week, breasts like footballs and very painful. Told both our parents and made booking-in appointment with midwife.

Took clear blue digital this morning, expecting to see 2-3wks or 3+wks, but instead got BFN (I did drop the stick on the hard floor prior to using it), so assumed it was broken and bought 2x Morrisons and 2x Tesco HPTs (not digital). First Morrisons one didn't work at all, second gave BFN. First Tesco one gave faint shadow after a good few minutes (I think I may be imagining this due to wishful thinking!) and I daren't do the second one...

Granted the clear blue one may have been broken, and I didn't use FMU for the others (drank 500ml water between first and second ones, could this have made a difference if I'm supposedly 2-3wks past conception?) but I'm going crazy here and can't think straight!

Any advice/ideas/own experiences would be very gratefully received.

Im sorry ,It sounds like an early miscarrige to me, I've had 4 the last about a month ago and this time it took around 2 weeks for hormone level to drop to not pregnant from getting really strong positives.

To confirm you could ask for a hgc blood test, they usually do one one day then the other 48 hours later, if amounts double you are still pregnant, if they are dropping it confirms miscarrige xx

I think its a good idea to get a blood test from the doctor...

This site tells you the percentage of people getting BFNs on set days after ovulation... there are still some people getting BFNs 2-3 weeks after ovulation but it would be unusual to get that after already having a positive.

But if it wasn't FMU and you drank a lot before taking the test, then there is a chance you've just over diluted your urine.

I would wait until tomorrow morning and do your last test, I think that would tell you one way or another. I'd probably invest in a digital test as well, so you don't have to do any of that "peering at the line" thing.

Thanks for your reply, and I'm sorry o hear about your early mc's I'm really hoping that this isn't the case as I had implantation bleed less than a fortnight ago... I'll try to refrain from taking another test until the morning and see what happens from there.

Thanks for your reply dontcallme - I'll have a look at the link and try to work it out, take another test in the morning and report back - although I do think that I'm giving myself false hope somehow.

There's nothing worse than not knowing what's happening, you could always go to early pregnancy unit and tell them you had positive test and bleeding (I know it was an implantation bleed but at least then you may get answers tonight) fingers crossed for you and hoping everything turns out okay xx

I suppose I'll save my last test for next time... DP and I are gutted but trying to be logical about it, Mother Nature knows best after all. Thanks for your support xx

Thank you all so much for your support - lovely, straight-talking nurse confirmed my fears and I'm off to the hospital tomorrow for the necessary procedures
Done the tears for tonight (although I'm sure there'll be more tomorrow), DP is being incredibly philosophical, both DMs are understandably upset but so kind and supportive (mums are great aren't they?)

Thanks both - sorry for the delay but I spent all yesterday afternoon crying (partially due to hormones I guess) and trying to distract myself by cleaning like a mad woman! Yesterday's scan showed nothing and blood HCG tests were negative I got the impression that they wondered why I'd been referred when there was obviously nothing they could help with. They couldn't even call it a miscarriage due to negative blood result.

I need to phone and cancel my booking-in appointment with the midwife so no doubt there'll be some more tears...

DP and I had a good cry together last night, my best friend hit the nail on the head by saying of course we were bound to be sad and disappointed, after such a lovely surprise and then feel that it had been taken away from us.

The bleed is down to almost nothing so I'm back at work and doing my best to get back to normal again. At least we are lucky enough to have some proof that we can get pregnant, so although it hurts at the moment, we won't be discouraged from continuing to try again once we're feeling a bit more normal.

I don't know what I'd have done without your kind words of support over the past two days - thanks again. xx

I think your sister is right, it's the hopes and dreams you had for your baby, my last miscarrige in the days before I lost it, we were all talking about names, and guessing what the baby would turn out like.. It's so cruel, one minute you are over the moon and next minute it's snatched say :-( it doesn't matter if the blood test was negative its almost minimising it them saying they couldn't call it a miscarrige, it just means the hormone levels dropped fast, which I guess is a good thing as then you don't need any procedure to remove anything. Don't panic if you start bleeding again, I think it was two weeks after my loss I bled really heavily but that's all normal apparently, they do say you are more fertile after a miscarrige, I don't know how true that's is but fingers crossed for you that you get your baby soon xx

I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but it is a little comforting in a strange way to know I'm not alone.

The upset is awful but I suppose that when the time comes that our little ones decide to stick around, it'll make it all the more special.
