Does baby need pram suit?

I am curious, do babies need pram suit? For example, if they are wrapped up in blanket and covered w extra blanket and hat? Do u need pram suit for baby in fist couple months? Mine is due end of oct and just curious if I should but or not. Also bc for example u walk around and then if u go into shop or stop by cafe for lunch, don't they get hot? If u use blankets, u could easily remove them, but pram suit u can't?

I had one and it was needed as DD was a winter baby. Means they have arms and legs covered but can still move around. Easier than faffing around with blankets - if it's snowing for example you would need more than a blanket anyway.

If I were to have another winter baby, I would scour the internet for a Scandinavian pram sleeping bag. They are warm enough to take a baby out for hours in temperatures below freezing, but you can just open it up if you go inside.

Pram suit would be helpful if you plan to carry baby in a front pack type carrier during winter months as legs & arms are not covered so that extra layer is good.

You could get by without one if you have blankets in a snuggly buggy but they are very cute as you say, its much easier to remove a blanket than to take off the suit.

I used snow suits for both my winter wriggly babies as blankets never seemed to stay put

Look for one with 2 zips up the front, much easier to strip them down in shops etc

Oh yes, was thinking about the Scandinavian zip bag. My husband is Norwegian and I've seen the Norwegians use these when we were in norway for Xmas :)

I had a coat which worked well - kept the parts not covered by blankets warm. I'm not sure what I will do this time though. It was something that I struggled with with both babies and often took dd2 in the sling instead of the pushchair as it was easier- same layers as me + hat and wrap her inside my coat with me. She was a December baby though so I worried a lot about the cold.

We were fine without as DD had been given lots of warm knitted cardis and hats, and we used blanket/cosi-toes in the pram with those. Actually I think it was much easier to get her in and out of that way - to avoid her overheating when we got inside.
I expect we'll do the same again (DC2 due November).

We had a fleece one from Jo Jo maman Bebe which was perfect. Warm but not so hot that you'd have up take it off in the car or as soon as you went inside.

My ds1 was an October baby and being our first we bought a pram suit for him. The only times we used it was when we had some snow most of the time it just made him a little too hot. I preferred using a coat and blankets as it was easier to remove layers.

Neither of my autumn babies stayed still enough to keep blankets on. I walked with the pram/sling a lot. For the first baby we had a Bush Baby snug bug pram suit. I was so.impressed that I also bought the waterproof version (Hot Tot); both children gave had various sizes, colours and styles of Bush Baby outdoor stuff since,it is brilliant. The oramsuits have two zips, very easy to take on/ off/ take down a bit. In the pram I also used a fleece buggy snuggle.

You wouldn' t go out in winter without a coat woukd you ? Remember the baby is not moving enough to keep warm that way at all.

It was great for my second who was born in winter, and I'll be using it again for my DC3 who's due in December. I've got 2 actually. They're so snuggly and soft- great for newborn-3month age. You can put them in it, wrap them up, it can be used in a car seat and when you bring them inside you can just open the front so they don't get too hot and they can keep sleeping. (whereas those snow suits or any other clothes need taking off and can wake the baby)

oh and the pic on the website also shows it can be used in a sling! Highly reccommend!

mumoftwoboys, did you use that in the pram when walking about with out anything else? for example, if you have them in a sleep suit or day outfit, could you put them in the baby rug and take them outside during nov, dec, jan weather and walk around etc? warm enough to use in place of a jacket? just curious abt it bc it is so thin! but does look like what i am looking for - as long as it keeps them warm enough!

I'm going to get a Lodger Bunker. Not cheap but it should fit them for a couple of years and as it comes in 2 layers can be used year round. They're a Dutch design and in the country I'm from everyone uses them.

The great thing about them is that you pull the harness through (3 or 5 points), put the child in and close it up (almost like a fajita ). So if you're in a shop it's easy to open it up and they can't wriggle out of it.

They also do a smaller version for newborns/smaller babies (Lodger Wrapper Motion Fleece) so I'll probably get that too for in the carrycot / carseat.

Ah this looks good too! Similar idea to the Scandinavia one - voksi. I might go w this one though to start out w. I want one for newborn to use in pram. No way my toddler daughter would allow me to wrap her arms up!

Now, do I need suit for her? Or is warm winter coat enough? If its cold, I could just cover legs w blanket? Or do I need to buy foot muff? I have iCandy stroller (just bought) so wondering if I need footmuff for my older daughter who is 18 months? Our last stroller came w one and it was useful when she was baby, but not sure how useful now?

I don't think you need a snow suit with that. I've seen them IRL and they do look VERY warm.

You don't "wrap" their arms in it by the the way , it just sort of folds over them. They can still move them. I think if you just put them in a coat and hat it should be enough for very cold weather.

Just noticed their website has an English version, might be easier for you.

(by the way, I don't work for them, I just think it's a really good idea and haven't seen anything similar in the UK)

We didn't use a padded suit because we live rurally and drive everywhere and I'm not happy using them in the car seat because of safety. We just used a fleece all in one and blankets on really cold days.

mamabear it is warm enough with indoor clothes underneath but you'd put the usual cover over them if it was really cold outside- i.e. pram cover/cosytoes or wind cover etc. used it a lot in the car in the car seat too. I found those all in one snow suits cute but a hassle with baby getting upset every time I had to get his arms and legs out of it when coming indoors- also grew out of them too quickly!

i agree, snowsuits are a big faf! :)

i used the Bug in a Rug too. its just the right weight , keeps them warm, sealed in , but still light enough so you can manage the temp in the car and then getting back in the elements again.
