How much of the baby weight did you loose right after labour?

My weight gain isn't excessive so far but it does make me panic a bit when I think about it...

Just wanted to hear some stories from those who had their children of how much you've put on and how much you've lost through labour.

Thanks :)

With DS I left the maternity in size 8 jeans, I was young and slim. Not so much so with DD 7 years later, but I had put on weight before the pregnancy. Breast feeding helps lose weight Grin

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2013 20:19

7 lb and 10 oz.

I took another baby and 3 yrs to loose the other 3 stone.

NomDeClavier · 08/09/2013 20:20

I left in pre-pregnancy clothes - of the 10kg I put on, I lost 8kg in the delivery room. This time I feel I was fatter to start with and am putting on more though!

coffeewineandchocolate · 08/09/2013 20:22

Put on 20lbs and lost about 14lbs in the delivery room

Beamae · 08/09/2013 20:24

I put on a stone breastfeeding my twins. It doesn't always make you lose weight! I only managed to shift that stone when I stopped breastfeeding and never lost the other 2 I put on. Hmm

nancerama · 08/09/2013 20:26

Don't own scales, so no idea, but I was back in size 8 skinny jeans after a couple of weeks.

2 years on though, DS has ditched the buggy and wants to walk everywhere. I'm blessed with the most god-awful sausage thighs from shuffling along at no speed rather than pounding up and down hills at speed Hmm

nancerama · 08/09/2013 20:33

By the time your baby comes along though, you won't care. You will be so amazed that your body grew a whole other person that any new lumps or wobbles won't matter.

onefunkymama · 08/09/2013 20:33

My weight didn't change much but my baggy tummy took a while to go

thecakeisalie · 08/09/2013 20:34

I can't really remember how much I dropped with ds2 but with ds1 I lost at least 14lbs of the baby weight immediately after giving birth. The rest dropped off me in the first few months and by the time he was 6 months old I was lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight. I think it had a lot to do with not being able to eat proper meals and just snacking when I could.

CooCoolite · 08/09/2013 20:35

I lost exactly 6lbs and 13ozs! Guess the weight of my firstborn.....

Put on 2 stone in all, didn't lose any until I stopped breast feeding despite best efforts. Weight dropped off quite quickly after that, although sill carrying 6 lbs extra now 2 years later....TTC my 2 DC now and determined to watch what I eat more this time round...went hell for leather on the biscuits last I'm!

GaryBuseysTeeth · 08/09/2013 20:39

122lbs before ds1. 40lbs gained, lost 20lbs in the day & day after he was born.

124lbs before ds2, 30lbs gained, lost 15lbs in the day & day after he was born. He's 5wks old & I've still got 12lbs to go.

Don't care about the stretch marks or saggy bits but hate feeling unfit and having thighs that rub!

cairnterrier · 08/09/2013 20:41

Both pregnancies put on 3st, lost 1 1/2 stone in the delivery room. Then lost nothing until 11 weeks (but could fit back in large days pre-pregnancy clothes from about 1-2 weeks) then steady 1lb a week until about 9 months. Then lost the last few pounds once periods started again at around 13 months.

EBF both babies. Somehow post-pregnancy, although I was much heavier than normal, I was fitting into my normal clothes so can only assume that it was all boob weight - and I did go from 32C to 38E/F at end of pregnancy then 34/36 C/D for most of feeding time.

Best of luck!

StormyBrid · 08/09/2013 20:45

Thirteen pounds lost by giving birth (almost eight of which was baby). A further eleven pounds of water lost over the next four days (was nice to see my cheekbones again. Unfortunately, I still have two stone of third trimester cakefest weight to shift six months later.

Romann · 08/09/2013 20:45

Gained 18kg, 12kg and 10kg, took 6 weeks, 4 weeks and 2 weeks for it to go respectively. Have not got the faintest idea why or how it was different with the different dcs (close in age). I ended up a couple of kg lighter than before I started, and still am 8 years later.

DontmindifIdo · 08/09/2013 20:48

Both pregnancies I haven't weighed myself from finding out I was pregnant until a couple of weeks after the birth - both times I'd gained 7kgs. By the time DD was 8 weeks it was 5kg heavier than before I got pregnant. DD is now 13 weeks old and as of this morning I'm 3.8kg heavier than before, however I was on holiday last week and I pigged out rather, I was only 2.1kg heavier than pre-DD before I went away. I'm one dress size up.

Some woman bounce back straight away, some it takes a couple of months to settle before you know what's actual fat you've put on if that makes sense.

Cavort · 08/09/2013 21:24

I had gained 2 stone by 40 weeks and had lost exactly a stone the day after the birth (6lb8oz baby). A week later I had lost another half a stone (of presumably water retention as my cankles had disappeared). 6 weeks postpartum and EBFing I was back to pre-pregnancy weight despite having a huge appetite and a very sweet tooth. Grin

CuteLittleToes · 09/09/2013 13:02

Thanks ladies. Everyone is so different! I hope bfing will help me loose some of the baby fat! Although it seems like it's not always the way... Hmm

I lost all my weight after I gave birth! However still had a little bump there but I found the pelvic tilts really helpful used to do them in the bath :) and could feel the bump going down every time I bf x

SomethingOnce · 09/09/2013 14:57

About a stone (14lbs), iirc.

Fastest weight loss ever Grin

Meglet · 09/09/2013 15:09

Gained 3 stone both times, from being underweight.

Lost a stone following the birth.

Another stone naturally over the next couple of months.

Last stone came off around 6 months when I was back in a good gym routine.

Thumbwitch · 09/09/2013 15:15

DS1 - I put on 11kg (~24lb) - lost about 10lb in delivery and it took me 2 weeks to lose the rest. Breastfeeding made no odds to my weight - although it allowed me to indulge in a bar-a-day habit without putting any weight on!
Unfortunately, I didn't give up the habit when I gave up bf'ing, so gradually gained another stone in weight.

DS2 - put on 13kg (~28lb) and lost a lot more in the delivery as I had polyhydramnios and DS2 was a little heavier than DS1. Took 2 weeks to lose the rest and get back to my pre-pg weight again.
HOWEVER. I have since steadily gained weight again, despite bf'ing DS2 - I don't know whether this is down to age, hormone changes, doing less movement, lack of stairs in this house, being heavier to start with, or what - but it's definitely bloody irritating!

HappyAsEyeAm · 09/09/2013 15:17

I vividly remember, with DS2, weighing myself at home the day before I went into labour, and then weighing myself after coming home from hospital, having had DS2. Despite DS2 weighing 9 lb 5 oz, I hadn't even lost that much weight according to my scales! I gradually lost weight over a few months, and then dieted to get rid of the extra 12 lb or so that wouldn't shift.
