Really interesting article about Nuchal Chords (chord around the baby's neck)

I've just come across this article and it further supports my leaning towards a natural/non-medical intervention type birth... It points out a few obvious things that we know but forget about in the panic of thinking about our baby with it's chord around its neck

It's such a great blog. I love the vid on that post of the mum untangling her baby--can't believe how many times it had managed to get it wrapped around!

Thank you, that's interesting and I think rather worrying. The implication is that most midwives have been trained incorrectly and may therefore be putting babies at risk during the birth.

I can only imagine the stress of the moment as a parent, trying to overrule your midwife's training by telling them not to touch the cord, when all of their training is telling them that they should.

I'm due to give birth in Feb and am interested in how people would handle this? Would it have to be in the birth plan?

I think theres a thought that we have to medicalise every aspect of child birth - to 'do something' about everything. I feel like there should be somebody stood there all the time asking "Why are you doing that?".
It was the part of the article that said about the baby not breathing through their mouths but through their chord that made me think "yeh, of course they do, so why the panic?". The lady in the video removed the chord that was wrapped 5 times around her baby's neck and it was all cool, fine and relaxed. Not suggesting this will always be the case but I think its time we put a little more trust in Mother Nature :)
