Movement at 17 weeks - worrying now.

I'm managing to stress myself out a bit here, I'm pg with no 3 and have been feeling gentle movements for about 3 or 4 weeks but nothing much in the last week. Strangely, having seen the baby during an ultrasound for something else on Thursday (the lovely sonographer took a detour through my womb!) I am more worried, not less. Although we saw the heart beating and things looked fine, it was not moving - I would expect it to have been, after having been prodded with an ultrasound scanner for the last 20 minutes (it was on my kidneys/bladder). At the 12 weeks scan it was all over the place....

Now I am just really worried about lack of movement. Any advice? We don't have a home Doppler and can't afford one, so that's out of the question (and a trip to hospital would be really hard unless it was urgent, dd is about to start school and dh has the car during the days....). Is it a case of just wait and see?

You could find you have an anterior placenta. Loads of people don't feel movement until later if their placenta is at the front, and it can move up as your uterus grows so you might still have been able to feel movements a few weeks ago but not so much now.

I felt some bubbly popping things at about 16 weeks and after it happening on and off until about 18 weeks i was convinced i must be starting to feels bubs (its my first so wasnt sure). Then i practically felt nothing for 2 weeks and would lie on the sofa every evening as still as i could to see if bubs would wake up and wriggle, but very little happened. It was moving a bit at my 20 week scan but not as much as at the 12 week scan and I was only in for about 15 mins as it stayed still enough and in the right position to get all the measurements. It took until almost 21 weeks (am 21 +2 today) until i really started to feel something. Def prods now that i can sometimes see on the outside and within about 3 days it has gone from me really feeling it to dh being able to. Its still only early morn and night tho and not everyday but I wouldn't worry yourself too much. And since feeling it more i am convinced it was bubs i was feeling a 16 weeks too.

Hi, I am almost 20 weeks and in a very similar situation to you. I first felt a very definite movement and around 16 weeks but then it has been really sporadic since then. I had a scan at 18 weeks to look at my cervix (another matter) and everything was fine. The consultant said it's normal to feel very irregular movements at this stage and if I was worried to call the midwife/day unit. Last Friday I was a bit worried as I hadn't felt much for a while, so I called the midwife and she came round and found the heartbeat straight away. Again she said it was normal not to feel stuff for long periods at this stage and actually it was quite rare to feel definite movements so early on. I am also pregnant with dc3 and I can't remember when I felt them a lot before, but all my memories are of when they are properly kicking off, which I guess isn't for a few more weeks yet. Sometimes I'm not sure what's wind/baby/nothing/my imagination. I go through stages of being really stressed to thinking that it's all normal.

Anyway, I guess I just wanted to reassure you that I feel the same and have been advised by lots of people that it's normal.

Good luck. Hope your 20 week scan goes well.

Oh also, I have had A LOT of scans (because of cervix issues) and I think I have only ever seen the baby move once. Literally. And then it just raised it's arm. So try not to worry about that, it was probably just sleeping.

Thank you. I think I might give my mw a call tomorrow, see if she wouldn't mind having a quick listen just to put my mind at rest.
