Hi. I'm 25 and been with my partner for 7years. We have just found out I'm pregnant (after finally believing the 3rd positive test) We weren't planning on starting a family just yet but are happy all the same. We just don't know when is safe to tell our parents. We are both sure they will be happy but very shocked. Also don't know if I can trust my mum not to tell everyone she passes in the street! And it is still early days (5weeks) Anyone in or have been in the same situation?

I found out I was preg on hoilday literally the first day I got home I told my mum I couldn't not tell her one she's my mum and too she can give lots of advice

Sarahmains40 · 29/08/2013 19:13

If you ask your mam not to say anything I'm sure she will be it quite

Excited2meetmyprincess · 29/08/2013 19:16

We told our parents pretty much straight away. Couldn't keep it in any longer lol x

Peacenquiet2 · 29/08/2013 19:31

With my first two i told my mum after couple days with dd, and as i was holding the peestick with ds!

This time however its taken me long enough to get head round it so im waiting until after next week (12 werk scan) to tell family. Even then ile be worried about reactions as its unplanned and not the best timing.

Id say tell them when you feel ready and if thats right away then so be it. If it means waiting until you both feel you want to share the news then thats also fine.

It really is a personal thing. Congrats by the way :-)

First of all, congratulations. Grin

I told my parents a few days after I found out I was expecting, and found it a relief as my mum was there to talk to and answer any questions, without giving our secret away before we announced it to everyone after the 12 week scan.

SmallBee · 29/08/2013 19:51

Congratulations!
We told my parents at 8 weeks as I couldn't hide the morning sickness from them any longer, I had wanted to wait until the scan but glad we did it early as the support they gave me was brilliant.
If you asked your Mum to keep it quiet do you think she'd be able to? If not I would suggest waiting, it's your news to tell people & you'll really enjoy telling it to everyone!

star15 · 29/08/2013 20:45

I was the same, I told my mum and step father when I was 8weeks because she started noticing my boobs getting bigger and alway feeling sick etc thankfully she kept quite but I think it was a struggle for her!

Follow your heart

Writerwannabe83 · 29/08/2013 20:58

We won't be telling our parents until after the 12 weeks scan. My mom has been asking if I'm pregnant yet as she knew me and hubby were thinking of trying, but I just lie and tell her no. I've actually told her that baby plans are going on hold until December just so she'd stop asking Smile

Congratulations on your pregnancy x x

I don't have any parents but I kept it all quiet from the rest of my family until the 12 week scan/neuchal screening results. My DP though does have both his parents around and we told them at about 7 weeks as his Dad was off for a triple heart by-pass and we thought the news would give him something to look forward to. They kept it quiet though until we'd had the neuchal screening results and then they told EVERYONE!

Writerwannabe83 · 29/08/2013 22:04

Xena - Can I ask how long you had to wait for your NT results?

Lilleahw · 29/08/2013 22:42

Thanks for all your comments! After hearing the first few posts I got in my car and went straight round to tell them! Feel great now it's all off my chest, and they were over the moon! Thanks mumsnet people! Grin

Congratulations!!!Thats lovely, its so lovely when you get a happy reaction.

I still haven't told my family...Im coming up to 19 weeks!!
But as with my other dc, i know i will get a horrible response especially from my mother.

Enjoy your pregnancy...

firesidechat · 30/08/2013 07:47

My daughter told us on the same day as she took the first positive test. I had to keep it a secret for 8 agonising weeks, but I did manage it. Smile

LottieJenkins · 30/08/2013 08:00

I actually told my next door neighbour before I told my Mum. She was very upset as her husband had died suddenly and we were all very close. I wanted to give her something to look forward. She became one of Wilf's honourary Grannies!! Smile

BunInMyOven93 · 30/08/2013 12:03

I told mine.about.3 hours after finding out. I told my dad cause i knew he'd be so excited. But was so nervous about telling mum. But was unfair to tell dad and not mum. To me suprise she was over the moon!! X

BunInMyOven93 · 30/08/2013 12:03

To my suprise*

cookielove · 30/08/2013 12:10

I held on for four days and then I cracked and told my mum and my sister. My mum cracked and told my dad. That was at 4 weeks. We told dh's parents at 7 and 8 weeks. One set didn't really care and the others are over the moon.

ZingWantsCake · 30/08/2013 12:21

if you are not sure then say nothing now, but wait for your 12 week scan.
that will give you time to think about when and how you want to break the news.

you need to go and talk to your GP though.
and depending on your job you might have to tell your employer too.

Thanks congratulations and good luck.

MissCalamity · 30/08/2013 12:29

With DS we told my parents about 8 weeks & DP's mum the day earlier, it was a bit of a sad time for MIL as it was the first birthday for FIL since he died, so we agreed it was nice news to be receiving at that time.
This time around we told at 5 weeks as we were out for DP's birthday & we didn't want our friends knowing before them in case it slipped out.

Congratulations! It's so exciting telling people Grin
