19 weeks. Fetal movement. I'm getting myself all worried :(

Slap me with a wet fish and tell me i'm being an idiot:

I know i'm being a bit silly;
I know that everyone is different;
I know it's hard to tell what's kicking and whats wind;
I know i'm probably on the borderline for time when kicking starts ...

BUT ... i'm worrying because i haven't felt anything i'm sure about. It's all everyone keeps asking (including DH) all jolly like, and every time someone asks i'm getting more wound up and upset inside because i cant say yes :(

I'm neither skinny nor over weight. I have 3 DCs (in their teens now), so my tum is by no means flat. Average i suppose.

I do keep getting a weird sharp 'ping' sort of sensation under the skin on the right side of my bump, which takes me by surprise every time - but it's a bit high - level with my belly button - too high surely? For 19 weeks?

I think part of my problem is that my only clear memory of fetal movement from previous preg.s is the mahoosive great movements of later pregnancy when you can actually see limbs passing under the skin of your belly.

When i do get a little rummaging sensation inside, and i think ''gasp! Yes! A movement!" it's usually followed by a bloody burp or fart and i'm left deflated. Literally!

Who's felt what, where and when please?

When my baby moves it feels like muscle twitches. Initially I felt these at 19 - 20 weeks and at 24 weeks it's stronger but still gives me the same sensation.

I think as this is not your first pregnancy your baby's movements could be higher up than you expect.

hello fluffy! i'm 19+1, first pregnancy and fairly thin. Only 2 days ago did I feel something that made me wonder if it could possibly be movement - nothing definite yet!

At my 18 week scan (I'm not in UK!), the doctor said he thought I'd start to feel movement somewhere between 20 and 24 weeks. So plenty of time Smile

akuabadoll · 28/08/2013 16:51

Plenty of time. I'm 32 weeks, felt nothing obvious at all until 22 weeks when I got 3 swift kicks just as I was going to sleep. Thought ahh yes, that will be it then.

MrsGSR · 28/08/2013 18:29

I'm 20 weeks today and haven't felt anything yet and I had a very small waist and flat stomach before getting pregnant. I was also told it's normal to feel first movements anytime up to 24 weeks.

mrsravelstein · 28/08/2013 18:33

i had an anterior placenta with 2nd and 3rd pregnancies and felt movement much later as a result, so that might be what's going on for you

Anothermrssmith · 28/08/2013 18:59

21 weeks and still no definate movement. Plenty of fluttering but no proper kicks. That said since the weekend I've been getting twitches in my lower abdomen, started out always in the same place but today have been moving from left to right. I am on the big side though but sounds to me like your pretty normal,only yesterday I was convincing myself I had miscarried because of the lack of movement and today it's been much better!

Thank you very much for the replies.

For some reason i find it much more reassuring to hear these things from MNers than reading on google.

I have time yet then - before needing to fret.

mrsravel i had a scan at 14 weeks due to a big bleed and the Dr. pointed out my placenta sitting at the top of my womb. As far as i know it's still there Grin

I've heard about anterior placenta's being responsible for fetal movement being hard to feel.

Felt another couple of 'pings' when getting the washing in just now. And another as i began this post ... hmmmm.

Cant wait for 20 week scan in 8 days. It feels such a long way between the 16 week MW appt. and the 28 week MW appt. MW didn't 'listen in' at my 16wk - she said they just don't any more.

Just getting in a tizz for nothing probably.

Don't panic! I felt nothing at all, not even a 'ping' until the day after my 20 week scan. So I spent the last couple of weeks leading up to the scan absolutely terrified because every other person was badgering me with well-meant "ooh have you felt much kicking yet?" questions. The day after the scan DS suddenly began to wriggle like a jellyfish, but I know of others who felt nothing until even later.

LostMySocks · 28/08/2013 19:21

I felt nothing until 23 weeks. Even now at 34 weeks baby is quite lazy and doesn't move a lot just has a few wriggling sessions throughout the day

SadPander · 28/08/2013 20:36

I possibly felt something a day before my 20 week scan, but couldn't say for sure it was the baby. At my scan they told me I have an anterior placenta, which means it is at the front and cusions any movement -so this explains the lack of feeling. I'm now 23+3 and still nothing regular or definite, just 'pings' and something that feels like a little muscle twitch (you know how it feels when you're over tired and your eyes start doing random twitching?!)

Anyway, I'm sure its all fine and I've heard of plenty of people whose placenta was in the right place who still didn't feel anything till around 20 weeks.
