Panicking wildly about simple protein in urine....

I am 37 weeks pregnant. Had midwife visit this morning, and she tested my urine. Now I am panicking as she found +protein with the dipstick. She asked if I had any pain or burning and to be honest I had been weeing a lot and for the last 24 hours had a mild sharp pain after weeing, but I just put it down to the pressure of the baby. Since then I am worrying and have now got symptoms (or I think I have) of a urine infection. She has sent wee off to be cultured, but I wont get results until Tuesday due to bank holiday!! I am panicking because I thin if I have got an infection by Tuesday it might have really taken hold. Anyone had same experience?

I had that throughout my first pregnancy - from about 22 weeks. I was monitored very closely, in and out of hospital, up until DD was born at 42 weeks. NOTHING came of it, and they knew it wouldn't, but had to monitor it.

A urine infection is very mild, can be got rid of with antibiotics, and has no effect on your baby. Just try to drink plenty of water in the meantime. I can't see anything to worry about. Urine infections are quite common in pregnancy but they are not serious.

The reason your protein is monitored is for pre eclampsia, but high blood pressure is the main indicator of this.

I am almost certain a urine infection in pregnancy is far more serious then if you weren't pregnant. Ten years ago I was monitored in hospital because it can trigger labour (sorry, I don't want to worry you, but please don't brush it off).

OP, if you are worried seek help.

I had a touch of protein at around 35 weeks, as well as some other uti symptoms such as vomiting and dizzy spells. They sent off my sample to the lab but prescribed me strong anti biotics premptively straight away, they didn't wait for the results to come back. This was at the day assessment unit in hospital.

I'm not sure if MWs can do prescriptons? If you are worried can you find someone who will see you today?

urghh midwives are too busy today - I will have a 3 hour wait if I go in, so they said ring out of hours doctors and been on hold for 15 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
