Right sided period-type pain during early pregnancy

Hi, I know there are loads of these threads but don't fancy going through pages and pages to find one accurate enough!

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and experiencing period-type pains in my right side that occasionally travels to my middle pelvic area. I've taken a pain killer which hasn't budged the pain and i'm growing more worried about ectopic pregnancy.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks

Hi Pope, I had exactly the same sort of pain when I was pregnant. I don't mean to alarm you, but you must go to the hospital. It could be an ectopic pregnancy, which can be life threatening. So please call your Out Of Hours doctor, give her the symptoms and ask that she calls ahead and let's the hospital know to expect you.

In my case (and hopefully yours), it was an ovarian cyst that filled, emptied and refilled as my pregnancy progressed. They told me that this is common.

But please, please seek emergency medical advice.

Yonionekanobe · 21/08/2013 22:11

I've had an ectopic and it was pain like very severe wind that just wouldn't budge. Don't panic it could be any number of things but please get checked out.

misspope24 · 21/08/2013 22:24

Currently in emergency doctor waiting room keeping everything crossed.
This pain isn't constant, comes and goes, and isn't sevre but I know it's there nagging away.

Glad you're getting it checked out Pope. Are you diagnosing the other patients there (in your head)? How are you feeling?

misspope24 · 21/08/2013 22:54

I didn't get a chance to wait around, I was seen directly. Doctor not ruled out EP but need an ultrasound to confirm tomorrow AM. Scary stuff :-(

Good luck op, you def did the right thing getting medical advice. I've been in your shoes twice. I'm sure they have told you this. It if you get any bleeding, diarrhoea, or more severe pain, go straight to A&E. Fingers crossed the scan tomorrow shows that it's all ok. Will be thinking of you.

DioneTheDiabolist · 21/08/2013 23:11

I know you're scared Pope. Is this your first?

(feel free to ignore me if that's what you want) Smile

Aaliyah1 · 21/08/2013 23:29

I'm in exactly the same position as you. 5 weeks with right sided pain, ruled out a UTI which is what I thought it was as I'd had one couple of weeks earlier. Then worried it was ectopic

Butttttt I had a scan yesterday an everything was fine. Pregnancy in the right place plus heartbeat Smile Was told the pains are just normal pregnancy pains. Which I found q odd as it was q severe.

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 21/08/2013 23:35

Wishing you luck for tomorrows ultrasound.

Sounds positive that it isn't constant and severe though.

misspope24 · 22/08/2013 07:56

Yeah this is my first. Unplanned but myself and my partner have come round to the idea and these worries happen. I said I him I felt almost hypercritical after all of the discussion and options we gave ourselves that now we are both so worried about our baby. But ultrasound today I hope and we will know then. Thanks for all your support and advice :-)

Good luck Pope.

Had an internal scan today (dildo cam!) which showed nothing on my ovaries, just a 3mm black blob within my womb. Could be the first sign of the sack but could be fluid. They said no signs of pregnancy(?) and did a blood test to measure my hormones. I've since done another pregnancy test at home which had a positive result. To be honest nothing has been ruled out or confirmed. Now waiting for a call (this Afternoon) once they have measure my hormones 1, to test I'm pregnant (3 positive tests done, I think that's a yes!)
2, to see if there is too little progesterone (I'm not having a healthy pregnancy)
3, to see if there is lots of progesterone (I'm pregnant, babies well and need a rescan to double check)
4, to see if there is an odd amount of both hormones which could mean ectopic pregnancy.

I'm in the same position. I only did a pregnancy test yesterday when period was late, and came back positive. Woke up this morning with quite intense pain in lower abdomen.
I went to the doctor and had a blood test. Have to wait til tomorrow for results to see if my hormones are high enough for a scan. I'm so worried ;-(

misspope24 · 22/08/2013 18:52

She just rang. Definitely showing pregnancy hormone at a level 600. The other hormone is at 28. Got another blood test Saturday morning. The 600 needs to double to 1200. The 28 is the middle region. Her words were 'it means your high risk of ectopic pregnancy but I would take that lightly'
No idea what that means really but Saturday will give more secure answers. I asked her do you feel more positive about this result than this mornings? She said she couldn't really say, Saturday will have the answers

Sorry you're in this horrible limbo, Jem and Pope. I still have everything crossed that this turns out ok for you. If you haven't discovered it already, the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust website has some good information. If it does turn out to be an ectopic or mc, there is lots of info on the miscarriage/ pregnancy board here (under body and soul). I've had two ectopics so am happy to answer any questions too - not a medical professional though!

Jemjames · 23/08/2013 13:40

I spoke to the early pregnancy unit this morning and my hormone levels are high enough to have a scan so booked for Tuesday lunch. :-) Pain seems to have subsided a little, but still there. Glad I found this thread, made me feel better. Good luck MissPope

misspope24 · 23/08/2013 17:05

I'm really pleased for you. I've got my re-test tomorrow and praying they are good. Keep thread updated and thanks for the support
