Dilated loop of bowel???

Hi, I have had a growth scan today at 32 weeks and they found an area next to my babies bladder that looks like dilated loop of bowel. I have now got to go to a specialist hospital tomorrow to investigate further. Does anyone have any experience of this. My last scan was at 28 weeks and it was not seen then. Thanks

Hi razzdazz, I'm sorry you have had worrying news. I've not heard of it but didn't want to leave your post unanswered.

I hope you get some reassurance from the specialists & that it is not serious.

It sounds like something that would be a problem if it had been missed but if your scan confirms it one way or the other they will be able to deal with it as soon as baby is born. The baby may need surgery or another type of intervention if the bowel is obstructed. I imagine they will need to check that all else is well too so everyone can plan what is needed in the optimum time frame for your baby. Also, sometimes these appearances are transient and it may all be fine. Hope so, please let us know how you get on xx

My husband was born with Hirschsprung's disease so we've been on the lookout for bowel anomalies. His was treated at birth with a bowel resection and that was with no prior diagnosis of the condition (days before scans were commonplace). If it's something like that then the specialist will be able to talk you through the different procedures and the implications; glad it was picked up on a later scan for you.

Good luck with everything. For what it's worth DH used to be used as a 'shining example' of having no long lasting complications by his consultant - he played rugby for England from the age of 15. He does however, fart for England now and blames it on his 'bowel condition'

Thanks so much for the responses. Just waiting to see specialists now.
