I need advice on induction for Thursday please

I need some advice please.
I will be 42 weeks pregnant tomorrow after having a very uncomplicated and low risk pregnancy.
All along I've dreamed of a positive natural water birth aided by hypnotherapy. at 40 weeks the mid wife examined me and my cervix was very posterior and closed.
At 41 weeks I was still posterior but 1 cm dilated and the mid wife was able to perform a sweep, but not successfully. I had a scan and the chord and blood flow was perfect.

Yesterday I went for another sweep and there was no progression from 1cm at all. All along my husband has supported me in trying to avoid induction and let my body do what its built to do.
So yesterday, the consultant was ok and explained the risks but didn't really push for induction, but yet she didn't offer the monitoring, which I think I'd like. So, in the end I'm booked in for Thursday to start induction.

I just feel so defeated and lost in terms of what to do now as it doesn't feel right. I was so upset at feeling so useless that I gave in thinking my body just can't do it. I'm scared about my body being forced to go through labour when it might need a few more days but at the same time I'm scared about risks.

Can I do it? I've already dilated to 1cm at 41 weeks, does this mean that it is starting to happen just slowly for me?

Sorry for long post but don't know what to do and feel the clock ticking :-(

Totally relate to how you feel right now. I was 42 weeks and really wanted a birthing pool delivery in birth centre but was told I would be induced in maternity ward when 42+1 (cue night of crying/devastation before d-day!). In the end the midwife broke waters, monitored me on bed for about 20mins then told me to get up and start moving around to bring on contractions (and if nothing happened within a few hours they would start using the drip to do the 2nd stage of induction). The second I stood up the contractions started and I delivered a 10lb+ baby within 3 hours...in the pool. So don't give up hope just yet! Good luck tomorrow!!

Thanks pain

good monitoring this morning, but as no success with sweep, we will go for induction tomorrow evening at 40 + 17

the head is just not getting into the pelvis so I think the time has come to get a little assistance.

Will keep you posted

Piffpaff, your 'was that it' thing made me laugh! I would be the same after 3 hours, 12 hours with DD flew by so that must have gone by in a flash.

I hope it happens tonight for you.

But I know how it is with DD she just wasn't positioned right so only got to 2/3cm by then we had a few problems (none related to induction, by the way).

Even though I did end up needing a c section it was with a spinal and I got to see my beautiful baby and talk to all the doctors when she came out. I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

Wishing you the best of luck :)

Best of luck over the next few days Della. C'mon baby!

Hi dellabob
I hope by now you've had your baby, but thought I should tell you my experience if not..!
I did hypnobirthing too and was induced for being overdue with reduced baby movement. I was GUTTED. I had 2 sweeps too and both times cervix was clamped shut!
I went in at 4pm for my pessary and contractions started in an hour. I used my surge breathing and I ended up progressing myself and did not need further intervention.
I ended up going from 3 to 9 cm dilated in 45 mins! My labour was a total of about 8 hrs but I only class it as 2 hrs as that's when I got to 9cm and not even realising!!
I truly believe hypnobirthing helped me and please use it as much as you can. The only thing that I look back on with regret is that I couldn't have my pool birth due to being induced, but I'll take a couple of hours labour on a bed over a long labour in a pool!!!

Hi Ladies, apologies for the delay. Yes I do indeed have a beautiful baby girl now! Born on Monday.

Unfortunately, i really didn't get the birth I hoped for, infact it was a little bit traumatic. The prostaglandin hyper stimulated my uterus making the pain unbearable. I dilated in super fast time, but the pain was making me pass out...I can't really remember. Labour lasted 5 hours in total but with an epidural at 10cm and forceps - the chord was around baby's neck and we both kept crashing and losing heart beat. They tried twice to get the blood gas from baby, but it failed, so they had to get her out quick. As I was 10cm and she was really low, they thought forceps was best option. I had a 2nd degree tear as well as episiotomy.

Unfortunately, this is all learnt from my husband as I really have little memory of it all :-(

However, she is beautiful, and after 2 hours in care, she was given the all clear.

I kid you not, it was very scary but thank goodness I was in the right place.

Thank you for all your kind words and birth stories, we got through it :-)

Oh my gosh, that sounds really traumatic but so glad you're out the other side now and have a beautiful baby girl. Congratulations! Sorry to hear you had to go through that though. xxx

Congratulations on your new DD. I'm sorry it wasn't the start you wanted, but hope you all recover quickly.

Be kind to yourself and try to take it as easy as you can for the first 6 weeks as you will need time to heal. Lots of lovely squishy baby cuddles and feeding in bed.

Congratulations and take care.
