Can they miss twins on scans?

This is going to sound ridiculous but can they miss twins? I had an early scan at 6 weeks and there was only one fetal pole and heartbeat but she had to press down on my stomach quite hard to get that on the screen.
I'm 11+6 today and I've suddenly got massive. I've had a lot of bloating and water retention but there is a quite obvious 'bump' shape now from where my uterus is that curves up to just below my belly button. Surely no one gets a bump this early, especially on their first baby?
I got a positive pregnancy test at 3+5 and was feeling sick just before that. I had a repeat blood test at 4 weeks for a suspected ectopic and my hcg more than doubled -it nearly tripled- in the space of 44 hours.
Over the last couple of days when I've been sat really still or laid down in bed I've been getting funny feelings like tiny 'bubbles' or fluttering, although I know it's most likely gas.
So could they have missed it or am I panicking and over thinking?

They can miss twins at such an early stage, however I don't think it's common (I asked at my early scan, and that's what I was told by the sonographer). Basically if one twin is hiding behind the other! How long til your 12 week scan?

I didn't have an early scan so don't know how obvious twins are to see that early on. I have read about a second foetus being found as late as 18/20 weeks!

I only found out it was twins at 13 weeks so medically it wont make a different if there are two babies there at your next scan!

Neversleepagain did you get bigger earlier?

Rockchick I I have my midwife booking in tomorrow and I will get my appointment presumably for next week or week after. I'm all nervous now!

They were my first pregnancy so I had nothing to compare it to. I didn't start properly showing until around 16 weeks.

I guess they can miss it that early but I was big by 12 weeks - to the point I had to wear maternity trousers but it was all gone by 4 months and I ended up with a neat bump even at the end. It was all bloating.

This time I'm drinking peppermint tea to try and reduce bloating!

They missed our twins at our first scan (8 weeks).

It was only a later "peace of mind" scan that picked it up at 10 weeks.

I imagine it's unlikely they'll miss twins at the 12 week scan, but not sure.

With my singleton I was showing by 7 weeks. I wasn't showing until around 14 weeks with my first twins. Also, I had high HCG levels with my firstborn.

I am pregnant with twins at the moment and found out at a 10 week scan. It was very obvious there were 2!

I am showing now at 12 weeks but I was also showing very early with my son. I actually had stretch marks at my 12 week scan and there was only one of him!

I think it can be different for everyone. I used to fib about how far along I was with my son because I was embarrassed about how much I was showing!

My dts were clear to see on a 7 week scan, and I am a porker.

Possible, but unlikely to miss them, I think.
