I have Factor V Leiden!!

Hi,

Yesterday I was diagnosed with factor 5 leiden. This is a clotting disorder that means I am mre likely to get blood clots, the risk is eevated further in pregnancy. im 33 weeks pregnant and was commenced immediately on fragmin (heparin) injections, ive been told ill need growth scans and a referral to a haemotologist. Without treatment i am told there is a 13% risk of late fetal loss, with treatment about 6%. Im just so upset, keep crying.

Cant wait for the first scan, dont know what it means for my baby, is there a chance there has been a small clot in my placenta already that means there might be a problem with my baby?

Has there been any experience of this? If so was you induced early so you could stop taking heparin in time for epidural / csection / chance of bleeding?

And for those that have experience, were you DC healthy? Did you have any complications?

Hi El, I have factor v Leiden and am on my 3 rd pregnancy. I have to inject myself with Fragmin every day and the drs keep a close eye on me!
I wasn't induced and had two very straight forward births with very little bleeding.
I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry.

Thanks bad, that's good to hear. Where do you inject? In your tummy or thighs? I have DD who was uncomplicated too but I didn't know anything about this then... X

I inject into my stomach (it's easier to pinch there!!!) I was diagnosed with it in 2002 after having blood clots in my lungs.
The main issue was being told that I couldn't have an epidural for 12 hours after my last jab, but luckily I didn't need one. X
