Baby due in about a month and some people have already given me gifts. Should I open them now and thank people for them next time we meet or will they be expecting me to wait until the baby is born?

I always seem to get these things wrong!

Congratulations! Not long to go ...

Open now, write the thank you cards and then get someone to post them a couple of days after the baby is born!

Thank you! Thing is I will still be seeing them at work etc over the next couple of weeks so do I open now, thank in person and then send a card when baby is born?

I am over thinking this I know Hmm

I think I'd wait to thank people. You might have 5 Peter rabbit teethers and need to return 4 of themGrin, not that they need know this Grin.
Lots of people wait to give the presents, let alone open them. My pre-written thank yous idea is based on how little time you'll have to do that kind of thing once the baby is here.

Yes I like the idea of pre written thank yous. That way I won't forget who has given what either!

I've been opening them (normally on the spot...) and verbally thanking people. If I get round to it I'll send proper thank yous after the baby has come.

I think you can probably appreciate the gift more now, than when you've had two hours sleep post baby :) plus, the presents may be relevant to things that you were planning on buying for baby so it's good to know what you've got.

I was in this same situation the other week - at a small family gathering, an aunt gave us a small package and said it was for the baby. I honestly didn't know what to do so thanked her warmly and asked if she minded if we waited a while to open it and she said not at all.

Opened it later at home and glad we did as it was a pack of newborn vests and some booties - means we can wash and use them straight away. Made me resolve to open any other unexpected gifts from people face-to-face so I could thank them there and then.

(Will thank aunt in writing later - but now don't know when!)
