Support belt for pelvic girdle pain

Can anyone recommend a support belt for pelvic girdle pain? I'm only 18 weeks and can feel the pelvic girdle pain I had in my last pregnancy starting to come back already so I want to do all I can to keep it at bay. There seem to be lots of different types of belts out there and most talk about being good for back pain and SPD but not PGP. I have spoken to my midwife and she was generally unhelpful and said there was no chance of physio at this stage. Thanks in advance.

SPD and PGP are the same think as far as I know? PGP is just the newer name.

Why no physio at this stage I started with pelvic girdle pain at 16 weeks and went to physio. Midwives can be a bit precious though so I went to my gp and he referred me but Also told me that you can self refer to physio...though I don't know if that's just my area or nationally. I personally woul try via your gp than threw a midwife and insist on referral. I've tried a few belts but the only thing that worked for me was crutches they really eased the pain but you can only get them from physio....if you try and get no where with referral you could always buy a walking stick online

Also recommend going via GP- my midwife didn't seem to realise how much pain and how dehabilitating it was, whereas GP did a prescription for decent pain meds and got me referral to physio the same week.

Thanks all for your replies. TeWi, sorry, I realise I was not very clear - thanks for your point. It is my understanding that SPD is a form of PGP that affects the pubic symphysis. This is not the form of PGP I have as mine is around the back at the base of my spine mostly.

Thanks to the others for your replies. I think you're right - I will go to my doctor and get a physio referral that way.

I'm looking for a belt as well. Also 18 weeks and can feel the first twinges already. I have got physio next week though. MW said its PGP too (as I don't have the pain at the front and it affects my hips more).

Oh you can probably self refer - look up the number for your local physio dept.

Definitely go to GP for referral, the earlier the physio sees you the more chance they have of being able to manage the condition during the rest of your pregnancy. They should be able to give you a belt if they think you need it and give you advice re: posture and exercises you can do to help.
