Ketones in urine?

At my 29 week appointment the midwife said there were Ketones in my urine, wrote '+Ketones' in my notes, then just carried on with the rest of my checks and didn't mention it again.
I just googled it and everything says its a sign of diabetes? Is this true.. Wouldn't the midwife of said something?

Ketones are a sign that your blood sugar levels are high - I'm diabetic and have to test for ketones if my blood sugars go above a certain level. I would say that if the midwife didn't go into it further they weren't at a level that should cause concern but if its playing on your mind give her a call, she won't mind. I'm no expert though so hopefully someone else on here can help you a bit more.

If accompanied by sugar, it could point to diabetes but without sugar being present it would mean that your body is using it's stored fat for energy instead of the food you're eating. Have you had bad morning sickness? At my 16 week appointment last week I had ketones in my urine but that's because I've not been eating enough due to sickness. Eating little and often is the key. Also, try drinking high energy drinks like lucozade to keep your glucose levels up.

Ketones in pregnancy is a sign your body is having to use (eat) your fat/muscle to find energy. You need to drink/eat more.
I had keytones a lot especially in my first pregnancy because I had hyperemesis.
When I had +++keytones they admitted to hospital to have IV fluid.

My midwife found high ketones in my urine at my last appointment and freaked me out by saying that she knew that I hadn't eaten anything yet that morning! She said precisely what Reenypip wrote, that ketones were a sign that my body was using up its stores and that I needed to eat more frequently.
