Is my baby going to be huge?!?

Hi,

Probably a really silly naive question but here goes!

I am 20 weeks pregnant and my bump is very big already, however I am naturally a larger girl and have always had a slight pregnancy type paunch! So I was always going to carry a bump well.

A woman I work with keeps telling me that because I'm so big, I'm going to have a big baby and she reckons it will be about 10 pounds!!!

Is she right? The bigger my bump is, the bigger my baby is going to be?

Is she a midwife/nurse or doctor? If not then she has no clue and is just talking nonsense! Your midwife will measure you and talk to you about birth weight. I've known friends have huge bumps but average sized babies so don't worry Smile

Tell her to shut her face and stop commenting on your body.

I know people who had tiny bumps and big babies and the opposite.
You don't know until a medical professional tells you and even they might get it wrong.

My bump was quite big at 20 weeks and only a bit bigger now at 32. I have been told everything from "oh you are massive" to " I didn't even notice you were pregnant"

Ignore ignore ignore,

Ahh seems this threa duplicated itself!

Thanks to both of you! I was sure she was just being silly but wanted to make sure!!!

I got fed up of hearing that last pregnancy. My baby was apparently going to be a girl born early and very big. My boy was born at 39+4 and weighed 7lb 12oz Smile

This time I'm just trying to ignore, people do love to comment, and you are of course public property now you're pregnant Wink

Bump size is no indicator. I had small bumps and big babies, biggest was 10lb 13oz.

RandomMess · 11/06/2013 20:13

I'm 5' was a size 10-12, bumps measured small, 2nd baby was 10lb 6oz.

RJM17 · 11/06/2013 20:14

I am only just 17 weeks and I'm massive already so I hope bump size doesn't mean massive baby!! X

chocoluvva · 11/06/2013 20:17

You might just look bigger than you actually are IYSWIM

You might have a lot of amniotic fluid

Your bump might not look much bigger as your pregnancy progresses

I am 18 weeks now and bump has shrunk. Mainly because I have regained ability to pass wind Grin

Ds1 bump was big he was 6 8, 2wk over. Ds2 bump was tiny he was 9ib. Currently 31+4 with ds3 have barely no bump but I'm expecting him to be large as his movements already feel huge just like ds2's did for me. So bump really has no indication to size really xx

total Bollocks, just ignore her.

Teaandflapjacks · 11/06/2013 21:03

load of utter bollocks!! you cant possibly tell - it could be lots of water, way baby is lying etc. Mine has gone down since she pulled her bottom in for example. What a total plonker! I was asked the other day if I was having twins, and told my due date 'must' be sooner, and then in the same day told my baby will be tiny and I am carrying 'small' - god knows what goes on in peoples heads! Grin

Smile, nod and fuck 'em.

bigkidsdidit · 12/06/2013 17:34

You just can't tell. The woman next to me at work had a very small bump and a 10 lb baby. Just tell her to get lost!

Nexus6 · 12/06/2013 17:35

you will have the right sized baby for you
