Hi,

I know that many people don't feel kicks for a while but I'm finding the whole waiting for them really nervewracking. This is my first pregnancy and as such every milestone seems a bit daunting! I think I'm more worried than I would normally be as my midwife wouldn't try to listen to the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment (I was 15+5 according to scan dates) and I was pretty disappointed by that though I understand why she didn't.

I have my 20 week scan next Thursday and I know the first few moments are going to be terrifying! is this normal? Would love to hear if other people felt the same way.

I seem to think about 'kick feeling' every waking moment!!

It seems FOREVER since the 12 week scan!!

Thanks :-)

I got first kicks at about 22/3 weeks. Placenta was anterior so was acting like padding!

janey1234 · 04/06/2013 13:18

Ditto on everything! No movement until about 21 weeks. You will be fine.
Good luck!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 04/06/2013 13:24

In my first pregnancy I was around 20 weeks but it was like fluttering not like kicks, with ds2 more like little taps and I felt him around 13 weeks and this time was the same.

Fairydogmother · 04/06/2013 13:33

i'm 18+2 and only feeling the v odd little movements - hardly anything at all. try not to worry! do you know where your placenta is lying? if its at the front then its def harder to feel anything.

you're welcome to join us in the november ante-natal thread if you havent seen it already Smile

PoppyAmex · 04/06/2013 13:36

Could be the positioning of the placenta or maybe there's movement but you haven't recognised it as such; I was only sure I'd felt something around 23 weeks in my first pregnancy.

LemonBreeland · 04/06/2013 13:36

With DS2 he was breech for most of the pregnancy and I didn't feel kicks until later than with DS1.

Saku · 04/06/2013 13:49

I m pg with my first DS. I understand your eagerness.. I felt first kicks around 21 to 25 weeks.. in 20-21 weeks you will feel some thing but always you will be confused that it was a kick or just your stomach is growling.. Grin
but till 25 weeks you will feel them real... So dont worry.. Smile you will feel soon.. and then you wont stop.. Wink

SeriousStuff · 04/06/2013 13:50

I'm pg with my first baby and I finally felt the first movements last Friday - when I was 20+6 weeks.

Don't worry about it - it will happen, then you'll start worrying when you don't feel them again!

CornishFirstTimer22 · 04/06/2013 14:05

Thanks Guys!! I know I'll feel better as soon as I feel definite kicks, or I've had my scan and seen that there is in fact something in there still!! It's that weird stage at the moment where I feel pretty good, not really showing much at all and not feeling anything! I think I'm going to see my midwife tomorrow to see if she can pick up the heartbeat, she said I was welcome to go back after she wouldn't listen last time :-)

Just don't panic if she can't! I have an anterior placenta and got sent for scans at 17 and 20 weeks as they couldn't find it with the Doppler, it was fine but scary!

ComtessedeFrouFrou · 04/06/2013 14:31

I worried for ages and spent a lot of time pressing on my tummy desperately trying to feel something. I'm now 22+5 and feeling loads of kicks - often enough to let me know that I am sitting all hunched up or need a wee. A speciality appears to be running on the spot on my cervix Hmm

I know you can't help but worry, but I promise the baby is moving, you just don't realise it yet. The MW heard kicks when listening to the heartbeat a good 3 weeks before I could feel anything.

curlyclaz13 · 04/06/2013 15:16

22 weeks for me and I have a posterior placenta, am 39+2 now and still don't feel much, in fact just had to do cold drink, lie down then poke bump to feel something today !
try not to worry.

MilesFlora · 04/06/2013 17:28

I felt absolutely nothing until 20+6!

CornishFirstTimer22 · 05/06/2013 10:31

Off to midwife now - so fingers crossed all goes well and she can find a heartbeat - I will feel so much better if she does!!!

How did you get on OP?

CornishFirstTimer22 · 05/06/2013 21:41

It went really well!! She found the heartbeat pretty quickly, a good strong 160bpm. I feel sooo much better, I can relax a little bit now until the 20 week scan next Thursday. She also said it was pretty normal not to feel any certain kicks until 20 weeks or so with a first pregnancy, and she said it was also normal to have the worries I had!

I also got a nice recording of the heartbeat for the OH so all in all a good day :-)
