Headaches-what can I do?

Hi everyone

I am 17 weeks, everything seems to be going fine although I am on progesterone until 24 weeks due to previous mcs. My problem is that I keep getting headaches. I wake up with them and they hang around all day. Does anyone else get these and have any ideas about what to do? I am taking iron in my prenatal vitamins.

Thanks

Have you discussed them with MW/GP? When did you last have your blood pressure checked?

okavango · 27/05/2013 20:54

I stupidly forgot to ask the mw. Blood pressure is fine. I will call mw.

Poor you OP!

I have a history of cluster headaches, but not recently. I found the second trimester awful for headaches - but it stopped after that. I think it's not uncommon.

However, I did have major blood pressure issues from the start of pregnancy and developed PIH. The first week after DD was born, I was kept in while my BP was brought under control. The headaches while my BP crashed and soared with medication changes were almost unbearable. I often wonder if the two were linked, but I'm sure that's just in my case. Do keep an eye on BP readings though - in my case readings would be taken 7-8 times per appointment and the lowest recorded. The MW thought she was helping avoid a consultant visit when in fact that's exactly what I needed...

I also got horrific non-stop headaches from about 14 to 19 weeks. I was terrified that they would last the whole pregnancy but now only getting the occasional one (am 31 weeks). That month was awful though so I totally sympathise. All I can recommend is 4head sticks (safe in pregnancy) they don't get rid of the pain but they provide some relief.
Hope they pass soon for you.

Try taking regular baths in dead sea salts (you can buy them at boots). Sounds weird but has really worked for me. And it's super lovely and relaxing either way!

Thank you Eggy and Cursive I will try both of those. I am waiting to hear back from the mw too but thankfully am ok today and on holiday from Friday so hopefully it won't interfere with work too much. Smile

just for info, my mw said that I could take paracetamol and reminded me to get my eyes tested. she also said that if I had migraines before I would be more likely to suffer. I had them during puberty so probably don't like lots of hormones! thanks to everyone for their help I am trying to avoid painkillers so your suggestions are great.
