They all say 40c delicate wash but should I be ignoring that and doing something else?

I just bung them in with the household washing TBH. Usually 30 or 40°c.

I did the same. For things that had got really grubby a 40 degree intensive wash usually did them fine. Oh and hanging out to dry on a really sunny day helps bleach stains.

Anything with sick on (e.g muslins) or wee/poo needs to be washed at 60c to kill off bacteria. If you don't, you'll get mould growing on muslins as I discovered...nice!

60c for bibs, vests and sleepsuits, 90c for towels and 40c everything else. I wash all DS stuff separately as DH works in a school and I can imagine his clothes full of "school germs". Only exception is towels as they all go in boil wash together.
