So far I have put on about a stone, is this too much?? Where is everyone else up to on the old weight gain or should I watch what I eat more?

Thanks in advance ladies.

This was the first question I asked on Mumsnet (although I was worried that I hadn't put on enough!) and I quickly learnt that there is absolutely no right answer, and nothing to worry about (unless maybe your midwife is also worried). It depends on a lot of factors.

I'm 21wks today and have put on about 5-6lbs, but I have a friend who's a week behind me who's put on much more. By the time this thread's finished you'll see the whole range of experiences and hopefully you'll feel better!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 18/04/2013 09:06

There's no right amount really.

I'm 26 weeks and have lost a stone. With DS1 I was at the same weight I started at this point.

I've had friends who have put on lots of weight in early pregnancy and then stayed stable the rest of the time, or lost it very quickly after birth.

Everyone is different.

BentleyBelly · 18/04/2013 09:16

I weighed myself at 19 weeks and had put on a stone. I am now 21 weeks and my boobs and bump have had another growth spurt, I feel like a blob on legs and am not going to stand on the scales again! I'm trying not to worry about weight just not eating to excess and will deal with the weight after the baby is born.

BraveLilBear · 18/04/2013 12:06

Everyone's different. I lost a lot of weight to morning sickness in the first trimester, which I had only just put back on at around 16-18 weeks. But have put on a stone since then - over last 8 weeks.

One of my friends is four weeks ahead of me and put on a fair bit of weight in the first 20-22 weeks (she didn't get ms), but it's tailed off now and she hasn't put much on in last couple of weeks so it's a very individual thing.

Cavort · 18/04/2013 13:28

I have been using this weight gain estimator to see if what I have gained is within the expected range, although as previous posters have said everyone is different so I wouldn't worry too much.

TotallyEggFlipped · 18/04/2013 13:36

According to that weight gain estimator I should gain between 28 and 40 pounds! That seems a lot. Time for more cake Smile

offonajolly · 18/04/2013 13:46

it says I should gain between 15-25 lbs and says I am now overweight! boo

offonajolly - how rude!

Monka · 18/04/2013 16:01

I am 24 weeks and have put on 8 pounds so far. Didn't start putting any weight on until around 15 weeks. I now weigh myself to check I am putting weight on. As others have said on this thread we are all different.

NoWayNoHow · 18/04/2013 16:07

not me, but at 20wks, my DSis has put on half a stone. I have blocked out gaining 548 stone when pregnant can't remember how much I had gained by that stage.

OneFingerSjupesUpTheYoni · 18/04/2013 16:16

I'm 23 weeks and have put on 10 lbs - pregnancy is the only time i don't put on loads of weight Hmm

CareerGirl01 · 18/04/2013 19:14

37 weeks and 2 stone - which is 28 lbs. I lost weight in my first trimester and only 10 weeks ago I'd only put on about 12lbs. Most of it is the baby, I'm all bump. I was really worried about my weight gain - as in not enough of it - this time round. I was on the slim side for my height before I got pregnant though and in fact I'm going to try to hang on to a few of those extra pounds afterwards, as I look so much better (younger) at the moment.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 18/04/2013 20:10

13 weeks and put on 4 pounds but my bmi was 24.4 before pregnancy so I'm in danger of becoming overweight. Major diet is needed after this one is born and I will never have to be pregnant again

marriedinwhiteagain · 18/04/2013 20:17

Fast forward ladies. DS is 18 + 4 months and I have DD who is 15. Before pg I was 9 stone 6; with DS I hit 11.12 with dd I hit 12.3. Am now 11.7. Your concerns are minor Grin My saddest moment was 12.7 when not pg Sad.

Gerty1002 · 18/04/2013 21:25

I lost 7lb in first trimester with MS and only started gaining in the past couple of weeks, so at 21 weeks I'm still 2lb lighter than I started! Appetite still fluctuates, sometimes I barely want to eat and other days I could eat us out of house and home!

BabyHMummy · 18/04/2013 23:13

I will be 23 weeks on Sunday. I lost nearly2 stone to start with due to hyperemesis but have since put back on a stone cos am eating again but as far as baby i have put on 1.4lb but am guessing some of the stone is also baby!! I am hoping i don't put on too much cos was going well on slimming world.

I wouldn't worry about weight gain unless mw says anything. Baby plus extra fluid can vary massively. My mate pit on nearly 3stone but was lighter after she gave birth that before she got pg as was all baby and fluid!

swaye · 19/04/2013 07:03

Im taking the batteries out of the scales and not worrying about it. I'll just beat myself up about it and that's just counter productive and there's nothing i can do about it. Im just making sure i dont over-eat and have the occasional treat/pig out!!!
