When was your breech baby spotted?

I am 24 wks pg with ds2. Ds1 was born via c-section 10 days overdue as he was undiagnosed breech.

My placenta is low and so I might have to have another section anyway, but I am also getting a sense of de ja vu. I haven't yet felt any kicks below my belly button. All in my bladder, bottom etc which is what I had with ds.

I know it's still early but wondered if/when you were first told your baby was breech? I'm v short and I'm now wondering if this might mean my babies get 'stuck'!!

my baby was breech/transverse until my 37th week of pregnancy

i was told at 20 week scan and onwards and each MW appt that she was breech

was offered at ECV at 37 weeks but she turned the day before after a reflexology session

We found out our ds was breech at 40+10 and was booked in for ECV the next morning. I had started contractions by that point and we all agreed that a csec would be the best option.

I am also small but my bump was huge compared to other women. He was 9lb 9oz.

Next time I will be asking for scans closer to the date because even though I'm not disappointed that I had the csec, it was upsetting to find out that all was not well so late on after an otherwise good pregnancy.

Not really what you want to hear, though - sorry! We're both fine now, eight weeks later. She's my third - the other two were the right way round, so I wouldn't assume anything from precedent. Can you afford a private scan at 36 weeks to check the position? That's what I'd do if I wanted another baby (I don't!) Actually, no, I'd try to convince them to give me a late scan on the NHS, citing my previous experience. Hope it all goes well for you this time.

My DS has got an outward facing right foot due to him being so squashed during pg - grew the wrong way apparently. They suggested an ecv on the morning of my csec but consultant said there was about 1mm of amniotic fluid left!

I'm having a scan at 36 weeks due to placenta anyway. Just curious to know what 'normally' happens. I thought ds1 was breech but was ignored. Even told they could feel his head when having sweeps .

At about 10cm dilated, when she was badly stuck. They had to do a mega rare style of section, basically pulling her back upwards, proper running down corridors stuff, blood transfusions, only one more baby allowed if I really must and defo no vbac, etc. At least one of us would have died in the olden days.

It was...an experience.

I was also told that they could feel the head during sweeps. 3 midwives didn't spot that he was breech, although one said that the other had mentioned that she wasn't completely sure about the position and looking back, she was definitely more hesitant than the others. At the time I just thought that perhaps she was less able than the others in identifying what was what.

On my due date when DS1 wasn't moving properly. Went in for monitoring and they found he was a footling breech and I had no amniotic fluid so I had a cs that afternoon.

My second DS was head down and a VBAC delivery. I did get a late scan more to monitor fluid levels but also for positioning . Good luck and see if you can get a late scan for reassurance

I'm 33 weeks pregnant with 1st baby and midwife told me she is breech last week. Baby has been right way up for ages but is fully breech now. Midwife didn't seem too concerned at all and said they won't really monitor it until I'm 36 weeks. Doing lots of random positions to hopefully try and turn her but we'll see! x

Posted about this the other week. Same as januarysnowdrop DD was undiagnosed breech and only discovered when the 'head' pooed at the midwife! A consultant obs delivered her (in a very hands off manner as is apparently advised) and she flew out in 2 pushes. Made a difference that she was my second baby, and she was also small (5 12). We are all fine, but I was very scared at the time. I made it to hospital by the skin of my teeth and I don't like to think of what may have happened otherwise.

I had been concerned she was breech since 37 weeks, and kept asking but 2 midwives plus my GP all reckoned cephalic. Things definitely felt different, mainly that I couldn't feel anything low down, but that was put down to it being my second pregnancy and head not being engaged yet.

The irony is that I was sent for a presentation scan late in pregnancy with my first baby and his head was well and truly down. We have since done a little online research into the accuracy of abdominal palpitation to determine foetal positioning and not surprisingly its low. I'm guessing they won't leave it to chance and will want to scan you with your history though. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I had suspected breech at 34 weeks. To be fair, the MW had said baby was head down at 31 weeks but I pointed out a big lump near my belly button and said If she's head down, is this a bottom?!. She said we'd see if it was still there at 36 weeks and to get on my birthing ball in the mean time. Lump was still there so I was scanned at 36+1. Turns out she has just inherited my bum! :) But I am glad that we got it checked out. I'd try getting on a birthing/gym ball in the next few weeks to encourage baby head down but push for a scan if you're still worried later on.

i actually had a student say that she thought the baby was breech in a checkup at about 34 weeks (baby was born at 36 weeks) but she got tutted at by the main midwife

Dilating nicely. Waters were broken. Student midwife got other midwife to check..... Scanner wheeled in. Doctor appeared and started talking to me about c-section. Thought he must have wrong patient as as far as I knew things were ticking along nicely. After that wheeled to theatre - without gas and air. And started to get an idea about the breech thing. Have most of subsequent happenings from DH. Although remember a very surreal conversation with the anaesthetist....

Oh I forgot to add my MW had been wittering on about what a "boney bottom" my DS had.

I met another lady in hospital (who is now a good friend ) who was also under the same MW and she had missed her DD was a breech too. We really should have complained the woman clearly didn't know an arse from an elbow head

ds1 was breech from 32 weeks. I have a heart shaped uterus and he was stuck fast in one of the lobes, there was no shifting him!

I was scanned at around 37 weeks and it showed he was lying with one foot up by his ear and the other tucked underneath.

But, ds2 was much smaller and managed to turn, thank goodness.

No personal breech experience here, but try not to worry too much yet. At 24/40 your uterus will only just have expanded above your belly button, so unlikely to have kicks too high just yet.

I found out dd was breech when I was 8cm dilated. Was a panic as I was rushed for ecs but had the urge to push before they coukd get the epidural in so had to have GA. But dd arrived safely and is now nearly one

I dont know when she turned because she was in a normal position at the 20 week scan, but I often felt like her kicks were really low down towards the end. Also really struggled with bending over but most pregnant women do!

If you have had a previous breech you should be closely monitored so should have plenty of time to discuss your options.

Mine has been breech/transverse since 20 weeks. Am having fortnightly scans & she's never moved in all that time. Am 34 weeks now & fluid round baby on low side so am expecting c-section again...

So, erm, missed breech seems pretty common! And depending upon where you are, it seems the care is rather patchy too.

I've got a mw appt in a couple of weeks so will mention it then. I am already mentally preparing for another c section so this just reinforced that idea tbh. Joy.

When DH exclaimed, "I can see his ass, I shouldn't be seeing his ass!" However my DH delivered a healthy, gorgeous baby boy.(unplanned, unexpected home birth - didn't realise how dilated I was until I was 10)
