Coughing for the last 2 weeks - is this daft?

Ok, daft question, but I've had a bad cold and have been coughing for the last 2 weeks. A week ago, my MW said that the baby is nicely coccooned and well padded, but I worry that it can feel all the constant coughing and be affected by it. Is there any chance that this will disturb or tire the baby out? Also, as I'm nearly 17w, I wonder if my baby can now hear sounds and is only hearing my coughs all the time!

I've had 3 chest infections this pregnancy and so far baby is fine, its started to really hurt me though when coughing now I'm getting bigger but hopefully I won't get any more now.

I had a cough for ages when pregnant as well. The midwife advised seeing the dr. Dr couldn't prescribe anything as it was just a cough and said it's because the pregnancy lowers your immunity. That combined with being an ex smoker meant I couldn't shift it. It went in the end. I'm sure you'll be fine as long as you don't think it's a chest infection.

i feel for you- i had acute bronchitis when 6 weeks pregnant, it lasted for almost 3 weeks. the constant coughing was painful and exhausting as couldn't sleep at all for the coughing. in the end i was prescribed antibiotics and it cleared up.

i was also told it was very common in pregnant ladies as our immune systems drop especially at the start to stop you rejected the implanting egg.

hope you feel better soon!

I've had a hacking cough for six weeks now and was due yesterday so am hoping it'll finally disappear before I have to start whoofing on the gas-and-air. Don't worry about the baby, he'll be fine, it just does take ages for stuff to go when you're pg.

Thanks, mumsnetters, that's reassuring. Especially as DH keeps asking me about whether or not I should get it checked out. Cough is getting better each day, though still lingering.
