Clever ideas to treat sinus pain?

On the tail end of an 'orrible cold. Pain in head from the thick gungy stuff that's on it's way out now. Taking as many paracetamol as I am allowed but I still can't lean forward and it hurts when I cough.

I'm 28 wks and have been on the phone to the midwives a few times to check its not a more suspicious PE-type headache (no other symptoms and BP, urine etc fine at check up in the week) but am getting fed up now. Any ideas?

Snorting salt water helps/saline drops. Also steam inhalation (bowl of hot water, few drops olbas oil and sit there with a towel over your head and the bowl). A dab of lavender oil on your temples does wonders for the headache.

Thanks Indith. Off to find the olbas oil. Think it might end up bring DS's karvol!

I'm sure you've tried this already but what about gentle massaging of the sinus area? Always helps my headaches when I have a bad cold, and I think combined with old as oil steam baths, that's probably your best bet. Chin up and get well soon!

Best tip i can give is if you can get it to rub vaseline (you can get the mini pots for your lips that have aloe vera in. Its ace!) Rub it around your nostrils and the top of your nose and not only did it unblock mine abit but stopped my nose getting sore from blowing it too much. Well worth a go! Sorry to hear your feeling rotten!

you poor thing. my favourite thing is tiger balm - can rub it on your temples and under your nose and it helps 'clear your head' - also handy if you aren't able to do the bowl / steam / towel / oil trick.
hope you feel better soon x

Aarrggh! Sinus pain is horrific!
I'm just finishing a cold too and have the yuckiest stuff coming out of my nose! Sterimar nasal sprays are really soothing and I find cutting down on dairy for a few days really helps.
I ended up having to have antibiotics a few months ago as it turned nasty, so if you have no relief in a few days I'd pop to your GP, as nasal things can linger when we're expecting!

I found a cold pack wrapped in a towel and pressed against my sinuses worked miracles. The cold reduced the swelling and took away the pain.

Not sure if it works for anyone else but a really spicy bowl of soup usually gets my nose moving when I have sinusitis (generally noodle soup) but I guess it will depend on whether you can handle spicy food
