I found out I have one of these today & was so overwhelmed by the scan it didn't occur to ask about pain relief.

Has anyone else had one & what advice were you given re managing the pain - which is really kicking in again about now??

Thanks Smile

You can take paracetamol, full 1g dose if required (ie 2 500mg tablets) up to 4 times in 24 hrs.

The pain eased off for me within a few days and warm baths helped too.

Thanks Sleepy can't believe I didn't ask a single question, too busy staring at the scan photo!

Hi, I did exactly the same last week and ended up googling it, so theres two of us! They said mine is 2.5cm which seems big but they didn't seem worried? Apparently it produces progesterone which helps. Stupid googling caused me to worry though, do they grow, does anyone else know if its a bad thing?

Under 5cm and they're relatively common, of no consequence really clinically and should be gone by 12 weeks. They'll have a wee look at your scan.

The corpus luteum itself serves a very useful function in protecting your pregnancy. A cyst is a common occurence and iirc usually caused by blood or fluid filling the corpus luteum. A lot of women don't even notice they have them.

Take some paracetamol, rest up a bit and if it doesn't ease, talk to your midwife. They can occasionally grow or cause problems but usually you'd expect it to self resolve. They'd have told you if they though it was anything other than a straightforward corpus luteum cyst.

It's horrible isn't it Manc I'll feel fine & then suddenly the pain just hits me like a ton of bricks.

Not much you can do apparently & like Show said not worth worrying about. I think mine was 3cm so we're well within the 'nothing to write home about' range.

I wish I'd asked how long they generally last cause its been almost 2 weeks already & I don't fancy another 6!

Corpus luteum cysts are generally a good thing. They look after the pregnancy in the early stages, releasing progesterone until the placenta takes over. In fact you are less likely to miscarry if one is seen.
So worry not and take a bit of paracetamol if it hurts.

I had one, thought it was an ectopic pregnancy to begin with as pain was so bad. Think it lasted until about 16 weeks or so, take some paracetamol and rest for a while.
