Weird sensation in vagina

Sorry this is probably tmi...

I'm 22 weeks and last night and today I've had an uncomfortable (but not painful) sensation. The best way of describing it is like I've got a tampon in and it's slightly in the wrong place.. It feels like there's something in there.

I didn't sleep last night worrying and ended up calling maternity triage this morning. Luckily she said it's nothing to worry about as no pain but she didn't really give any idea what it may be. Just said it could be things stretching but it doesn't feel like that.

Has anyone else has this? Do you have any ideas what it could be? I was reassured by midwife's lack of concern but still a bit unsettled. Baby seems fine - he's kicking away Smile

I just want to say that, although I have no idea what causes it, you are not going mad I've had that too!! Have to be honest though, I just put it down to another pregnancy issue and didn't give it another thought. I just think that things are bound to feel a little odd because of all the changes going on.

Thank you it's really good to know I'm not the only one.
I really wish I could have your attitude and just relax. I can't stop worrying about everything.

Could your waters have broken? The only thing I can think of that it could be that would be anything to worry about would be an umbilical cord prolapse, but it's very very unlikely and even more so if your membranes haven't ruptured.

It's far more likely to just be due to pressure down there combined with increased blood flow making it all a bit swollen. Have you or your partner had a feel around inside?

DuchessFanny · 09/03/2013 14:13

I had that too with all three pg and all was fine x

I'm 37 weeks and feel like I have a dozen wrongly inserted tampons shoved up there so it's only going to get worse I'm afraid

cogitosum · 09/03/2013 15:09

Thanks everyone. catlady I'm fairly sure it's not that. There's nothing actually there. Now I think about it in the cold light of day I'm sure it is just where it's slightly swollen. I'm also wondering about cystitis would that increase swelling so cause this as I'm beginning to get other symptoms?

Thank you duchessfanny and bluemonkeyspots that's really reassuring. It doesn't bother me if it gets worse as long as I know it's nothing to worry about. So far the worry is the only pregnancy symptom that's bothered me!

I had something similar with dd2. Turned out she had a full set of hair, a right barnet, and that's what was giving me the funny sensations down there. Thank god for Gaviscon tablets as my heart burn towards the end was dire.
Like fur balls Hmm

cogitosum · 09/03/2013 15:45

Haha well dh is greek and very hairy so perhaps he takes after his daddy!

I had similar thing with DD1. The actual feeling was like my cervix was sticking out from the inside all the way to vagina Hmm. It sounds silly now but at the time I did worry a bit just like you. It actually started after a long long walk, so don't know if it was triggered by it. Anyway, sounds like nothing to worry about.

Apanicaday · 09/03/2013 16:58

I'm having it too - am 18 and a half weeks. It feels almost like everything's going to fall out! I had it in my last pregnancy too, and several other people have mentioned the same thing, so am trying not to worry about it.

fruitypie · 10/03/2013 10:21

I'm 23 weeks with my first and have the same thing too. So glad it seems quite normal

weeblueberry · 10/03/2013 10:34

That was my first 'sensation' of pregnancy. I was very worried til I realised the movements were actually coming from much higher than I thought they were and that it was probably the baby touching my cervix. Even now (she's breech) when she kicks strongly it genuinely feels as though her foot is going to come right out of me!
