How soon in pregnancy does your tummy feel hard?

Hi all,
How far along in pregnancy does your bump start to show? Iv read that if you lay flat on your back, you can feel your uterus if you press on your tummy. At what stage can you start to feel this, and where do you have to press to feel it? Also is it obviously noticable?
Thanks in advance :)

They say it rises above your pubic bone around 12wks, but mine was abit before that. Nearly 18wks now and to my belly button it is noticable when I lay Down not hugely though and I can feel it all the time. It depends how far you are to where you need to press, after 12wk you should feel it just above pubic bone but of course everyone is different

I'm 8+5 weeks and I already have a tiny hard paunch! I can't suck my stomach in anymore either...I had a relatively flat stomach before my BFP so it was quite noticeable!

I started to feel a hard panel across my lower belly about 13 weeks, could feel it more when I lay flat. Now at 17 weeks I can feel it almost up to my belly button and it's started to stick out - very exciting!

This diagram shows where the uterus is by number of weeks. I can easily feel mine now but I can't remember when the first time I thought I could feel it was.

I am 24 weeks with DC1 and have only had a noticeable bump for the last few weeks. I didn't have any bump at all and was wearing normal jeans and trousers until 18 weeks but my belly has felt firm from about 13 weeks.

Thanks for your replies. I had looked on some sites and couldnt realy see a straight answer. The reason why im asking as im not too sure if im pregnant or not. I have a few symptoms but they could be due to other things, but the 2 that realy strike me is that for the past 2 weeks I have been realy breathless over nothing...even just sitting, and that I have noticed my clothes are a bit tighter than normal around my tummy. I now know its way to early to 'feel' that im pregnant, but is it normal to put on weight around the middle at only a few weeks pregnant?...or have I just been eating too much?!

Is there a reason you don't just do a test to know one way or the other?

mandetlet · 06/03/2013 06:42

I am going to do one soon. I guess I havent yet because Iv been in this situation too many times thinking I am, and every test is negative!
