Baby measurement - is this a concern?

Hi,

Had an appointment this morning with midwife (28+3) and she measured baby at 27cm. Last week (27+6) had an appointment with consultant who measured baby at 28cm. I didn't see this until I got home and midwife didn't check consultant's notes. Is this worrying?

I have read measurements should be done by the same person each time as they may measure slightly differently to each other, one may round down and the other round up as well. 1 cm is not much difference either. if both seemed happy I would try not to worry.

Also, baby may have changed position which can affect the shape & therefore measurement of your bump. Not a big enough difference to be worried about, and as curly said, different people may measure from different places.

Your midwife wrote the measurement down? Mine didn't.

Do you mean fundal height Buttery?

If so, normally they don't worry unless it's more than three weeks out for your dates. And even then, it doesn't necessarily mean anything at all.

At 37 weeks, I was measuring 34 for my bump. Now I'm nearly 39 weeks and I've just measured 32.5!

But my 34 week scan showed a bigger than average baby and the same thing happened with my first child so in my case, they haven't even referred me for a growth scan which is pretty standard if you're more than three weeks out.

So definitely don't worry about a cm - your baby has probably just shifted position a bit.
