Been feeling quite positive about weight gain this pregnancy, I know I've "eaten for 2" a bit but a much more healthy type of food, apart from the haribo habit. I genuinely didn't think I'd gone too mental, still fitting into my usual size clothes (maternity fitting obviously) etc etc so when I noticed the scales today I just hopped on out of curiosity..... DEAR GOD! I've put on 2.5 STONE since my booking in appointment and I was in the overweight BMI range then... And I've still got 4.5 weeks to go :(

I am in fact a fat pig :(

When I had DS I lost 2 stone simply by having him - 1 stone in labour and 1 stone over the next 4 weeks despite eating for 2 still - think it was all the blood and excess fluid etc. Having read up that seems to be a fairly average amount - so to look at it another way you've only got half a stone of baby weight to lose Grin

Hope that makes you feel better :)

I've just posted this list in another thread. Based on it I'd say you're right on track.

Fetus 7.5 lbs
Fat, protein and other nutrients 7 lbs
Increased blood 4 lbs
Increased fluid 4 lbs
Uterus 2 lbs
Amniotic fluid 2 lbs
Breast growth 2 lbs
Placenta 1.5 lbs
Total 30 lbs

Thanks both - Wow, it all adds up doesn't it - maybe its not so bad afterall :)

guess i did lose a lot of weight last time breastfeeding; that will help (assuming I can get it working this time)

If it makes you feel better, with my dd I stopped weighing myself at 30 works because I had put on SIX!! stone, despite actually being very good food wise. don't worry about it, you says you're still in your normal clothes which is fantastic in itself! I'm only 20 weeks this time and already look like I have a football up my top lol x

If I only gain that much I will feel as if I have done well.

I had a bit of a stress about this the other day too. I'm at 30 weeks and have gained 2 stone - panic stations! Particularly because I went onto one of these pregnancy weight gain calculators and it said I should only gain 7-10lbs. Hmm I asked the midwife about it and she said anything from 2-4 stone during the entire pregnancy is considered normal and she quoted me a lot of the same weights that HaveIThoughtThisThrough has posted above.

I'm also still in size 14 stuff (either tops from prepregnancy or stuff I bought at the beginning of the pregnancy - the only thing that's stretched is the bump bit) so I was really confused. But hearing others stories really helped. Smile

Thanks so much everyone - it was those wretched pregnancy weight gain calculators I was thinking of I think... given that I was overweight at booking in, I had it in my head that if I put on any more than a stone in total, that was bad. I'll try and calm down a bit. Irrationality does increase towards the end doesn't it...
