31 weeks - What is happening?! How can it hurt there?!!

Hello! 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and very excited at last! There is a long story to explain my question so I hope you will bear with me...

I spent until the third trimester trying not to get too excited because I have ulcerative colitis with which I was in hospital, for weeks last year and needed lots of awful medications to keep me well. I conceived just after I stopped them and was in the best remission I have been in for years. However I'm still on meds (not as evil though) because being well is safer for baby than being info the meds. UC increases chances of problems and I worried about the meds too, so tried to be very calm about the whole thing...

About a month ago the UC flared again and I went back on steroids and happily haven't needed the more evil drugs to get me well this time - to an extent the pregnancy really seems to have helped the UC Grin - this can happen. I just hope it doesn't go into overdrive after delivery... We shall see! ANYWAY...

About a month ago I had a scare with waters (same time as my flare started, and no-one could say for sure if it was AF) and was contracting too, but not too painfully. I was signed off, lots of rest etc. I am signed off til next week and then will see. However, I get BHs quite often, especially if I have been busy, and they are much worse in the morning. Backache last 2 days too. Baby very active Grin

I have a lot of pain in the left side of my abdomen due to my UC and being on my feet for any length of time is unbearable and kicks off the BHs too. I am used to this over the past 2-3 weeks though. MW says she thinks the baby will be early, obstetrician says if I flare again the risk of prem labour is high... So it makes me hyper aware of things! Hence my question...

Can you guys can reassure me on what is normal!? This morning I have had a few noticeable (uncomfortable/sore) BHs. Baby was fairly quiet, little movements though. My back is aching. But suddenly it decided to move +++, and painfully so! It feels like it is sticking something right down behind my pubic bone and wriggling it about! It's really far down, it's all bone and lower down when I feel where it hurts, right in my nether regions! Blush It makes me jump and yelp! Also triggers more contractions which aren't regular. It's stopped for a bit, but I just feel uncomfortable and my back is killing me.

I imagine this is all normal (in combination with the fact that I have an irritable uterus from the UC), but I just wondered... And can I stop it?! I can't work out if its head down or breech, has been both - last week was breech (having fortnightly check ups).

I am so uncomfortable! Is this normal at 31 weeks? (Not that I am normal!)

Thanks

I think you know the answer really, don't you? You have a complicated pregnancy, and something new has happened. You need to get checked out as a matter of some urgency. Don't rely on an internet forum for advice, see your midwife / obstetrician today, please.

Thanks for your reply. I have to say that my gut feeling is that things are fine... I'm not leaking, or contracting regularly, just randomly as per usual. My worry was that I was feeling things so low down... But then that could well be normal at this point? I was told to look out for regular contractions, or any further loss, neither of which I have. I have had recent swabs, which were normal.

I may well give my midwife a ring, simply so that she can tell me it's normal! I just know that I am hyper-reactive to anything new and I know it's a bit silly... And I'd love to know what is normal so that I could enjoy these funny feelings instead of worrying about everything!

Go in. You're poorly, high risk and feeling something new and alarming. You need a scan.

I don't have any knowledge of your condition and speaking to your midwife / doc is the best idea. I too am in week 31. It's worth remembering that babies born at this early stage almost all live and are healthy. I had 2 miscarriages last year and getting to this stage of pregnancy is in itself a comfort. Obviously the closer to 40 weeks the better. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy and your new baby! Follow your midwife's/doctor's advice and all will be well! Visualise it!

My thoughts are that this is normal feelings, it's just I'm not able to work out what is or isn't! Embarrassing...

Things are better, bit of back ache and a little sore but contractions have stopped - MW rang back and said it sounds ok now but if it happens again to call delivery suite... I asked about it being so low down, she said it could be normal but could come early (I know!!!) so if contractions restart with back ache and worse pain then it has to be checked.

I am not sure I'll ever know, I guess I'll have to keep asking!!! Which she said was fine... Just hate it!
