Anyone gone into labour after having no early signs?

Ok I am straw clutching here, I'm 38 weeks and have had no early signs whatsoever, I'm a member of another forum and there's a load of women around the same stage of me, some earlier, who are having daily cramps, losing bits of plug etc and it's making me convinced I'll be one of the unlucky ones who goes to 42 weeks.

My braxton hicks stopped around 2 weeks ago when she turned from breech and at last weeks appt she was 3/5 engaged, I know I'm being impatient but being off work is so boring, we have all her stuff here waiting and, well, I just WANT her now.

Can anyone give me a glimmer of hope that it's possible I could just start labour one day after having no niggles for days beforehand? pretty please.
(she's my first baby)

With my other 2 I had NOTHING until it all started, I've never had braxton hicks either so there is some hope :)

apachepony · 23/02/2013 18:34

Never really had braxton hicks, bump never dropped and at 38 weeks doctor told me it would be a while yet, waters broke the next day

I had nothing with dd2. Picked dd1 up from nursery at 13.30, joked there was no sign of the baby coming with teacher. Came home made lunch, nothing. First twinge about 15.00.

Dd2 was born at 18.54

Never had a Braxton Hick with either of them.

targaryen24 · 23/02/2013 18:37

I had nothing.

Went to 40+1 and then out of the CLEAR BLUE SKY it was all systems go. Lost my plug as contractions started (6/7 mins apart from the start) & 4hrs later I was holding my little boy.

It was my first too so a short, rushed labour was not what I was expecting.

Fingers crossed for you Thanks

I didn't have BH with last one, felt no different from any other day. Had one huge pain at 8:30pm then contractions every three mins. DS born at 12:10am. Hoping that I do the same with this one too Wink

dinkystinky · 23/02/2013 18:37

First sign of labour with ds2 was my waters breaking - had lots of braxton hicks for weeks before though. Had those with ds1 too but was induced at 42 weeks

PurplePidjin · 23/02/2013 18:53

My waters went at 38+1, ds had dropped and I'd started waddling a few days before but no signs beyond what i assumed were normal pregnancy niggles.

Everybody's different, all babies are different. You'll drive yourself nuts comparing tries to remember own advice

holidaysdistantmemory · 23/02/2013 20:02

Yes everyone is different, and so will you be! That said, my experience is that me and most of my friends went overdue by a week or so with our first, this seems more usual than not. I swam in an outdoor swimming pool on my due date, I was so convinced that it wouldn't come on time being my first. I went to 42 weeks with dc1 (and had 11 weeks off work before birth to twiddle my thumbs) but then textbook, waters broke dramatically, massively strong contractions, born in 6 hours, no probs. Dc2 came in 20 mins, waters never broke, only felt about 3 contractions when pushing out, home by teatime!

Good luck, best focus on the fact its totally out of your control, nothing you can do but rest and stay calm, and sleep as much as you can before B-day!

sittinginthesun · 23/02/2013 20:05

DS1, I was waddling as he was low, but no other signs. I just woke up at 3.30am having an agonising contraction.

galwaygirl · 23/02/2013 20:08

First sign I had was waters breaking - no BH and at midwife two days earlier baby wasn't engaged x

racheld33 · 23/02/2013 20:13

Hi, I had no signs at all, was 39 +4 and was hanging out washing, bent down to pick up a weed and I got a sharp pain-6 hours later has DS!

Dogsmom · 23/02/2013 20:47

Ooh thanks ladies, you've all given me hope, I've hardly had any symptoms all the way through touch wood so maybe it'll just kick off one day, I've thought I would have to wait through a couple of weeks of early niggles before anything happened.

I had no signs until first proper contraction when knew was labour & that was that. Hoping & praying is same second time round as am 38wks with dc2 & haven't had a single symptom yet!

Jayne266 · 23/02/2013 21:09

I had no early signs either waters broke and started contracting 3 mins later and we were off to the hosp

CitizenOscar · 23/02/2013 21:30

Yep, no signs at all, no BH nothing. So when i started getting contractions 6 days before due date, I assumed it was just BH. But no, realised after a couple of hours it was the real deal. Took another couple of days until we actually met DS though Grin

milkyjo · 23/02/2013 21:33

No signs, woke in night with contractions 7 minutes apart. Then went to hospital about 6 hours later. Show came when I got through labour ward door, I was 4cm. Waters were broken after an hour of pushing.

JollyYellowGiant · 23/02/2013 21:35

I had nothing at all until 40+5. DS was born at 40+6 :)

NicolaSeal · 23/02/2013 22:28

Me too, no signs at all. No BH or any niggle of a pain. Waters broke at 39 weeks on my sofa and my lg was born the next day.
