Hi ladies ? I?m nearly 12 weeks and have been taking Boots own version of Pregnacare Conception vitamins (much cheaper with all the same vits) since my BFP. Anyway I was told to stop taking them after my first trimester ? what do I take instead? Do I need to continue taking Folic Acid supplements? Advice and suggestions very welcome!

I take Neals Yard pre and post pregnancy vitamins. No additives etc

Just keep taking them! You only need logic acid til 12 weeks. You should take vit d supplements all the way through pg and bf. so it depends what you want and how good your diet is. I lived on salt & vinegar crisps til about 16 weeks so like to keep up with vits, also like the iron supply. I started taking pregnacare, then moved to boots own as easier on the stomach and then found that he sanatogen ones were best for me.

Folic not logic!! Stupid iPad.

I think that folic acid isn't as important after 12 weeks but I keep trying to take my vitamins for me. My baby gets first dips on my goodness and leaves me looking/feeling crap. I'm 27 weeks now but still take them- when I remember x

The folic acid is pretty much redundant once the spine etc is fully formed, so up to you if you continue to take it, I haven't as it made me feel awful.

Littlemissexpecting · 21/02/2013 16:05

I would keep taking them.
My mw said all pregnant woman should take folic acid, vit d and vit c all the way through

I am 20 weeks and still taking my same Pregnacare ones. It helps with tiredness I fine keeping my iron levels up

I'm in my 20th week and taking a pregnancy multivitamin and will continue to take it throughout. I try to eat healthily but sometimes it's just not possible. The article on the link above it great. I'd also add that you might want to take a look at fish oils (not cod liver oil!) for omega 3 for fetal brain development.
Btw, who told you to stop taking them?

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 21/02/2013 19:02

I understood folic acid helped your body absorb iron from food so that can only be a good thing? I plan to take them all the way through.

FoofFighter · 21/02/2013 19:15

vitamin c is the one that helps with iron absorption.

babyiwantabump · 21/02/2013 19:17

Folic acid also helps with iron absorption

Whyriskit · 21/02/2013 19:23

MW told me that if it was a multivitamin instead of folic acid by itself, I should continue taking it, especially for the VitD.

I'm taking pregnacare and will do for the rest of the pregnancy, its much cheaper on amazon I got 90 days supply for about £6.
