How worrying :( Thanks

Do YOU think your dates could be wrong, do you track ovulation at all?

I'd say for now to concentrate on the second opinion you had, that for now it is inconclusive - a lot can change in a few days and by Christmas Eve I would say you will know one way or another as a weeks changes should be very evident.

I'm sorry to hear about everything that has been happening to you. What a worrying time. The problem with early pregnancy and scanning is that as things are so small, it can be difficult to work out exactly what is going on, particularly after one visit. It is not uncommon for appearances on scans to be different than expected based on dates of last period.
Sometimes you can have a miscarriage with no bleeding to start with. In time, and perhaps several weeks after the baby has died, the bleeding will happen.
It is difficult to be able to advise you on what is happening to you, but it is likely that the team looking after you suspect that you are having a miscarriage, but need to see you again to be hundred percent sure. By comparing what they can see on scans performed at different times they will know whether the baby is growing as they would expect or whether you are very sadly miscarrying.
Cysts on an ovary are very common, particularly in pregnancy. They usually disappear by themselves. It is also very common not to see a normal ovary on scan. They can hide behind bits of bowel and be difficult to spot.
Please take care of yourself and make sure you get checked out sooner than planned if the pain you are having gets worse, even if this means going to a and e

So sorry you are going through this Sad. It is so scary and unsettling to not know where you stand.

You should count your week from the first day of your last period; that is traditionally (before there were scans) how pregnancies were dated, even though of course you were not pregnant when you last started bleeding. Ovulation can be variable and there is no reliable way to date from ovulation or even fertilisation.

HCG pregnancy hormone levels have a huge range of normal, so a single reading never gives any kind of accurate indication what's going on. Roughly, you should see a doubling of the level every 48-72 hours.

If you are less than 6 weeks pregnant quite often a fetal heart is not seen yet and it is standard practice to repeat after 1 week. And maybe the week after that.

Sadly, you can miscarry without bleeding OR pain; it's known as a missed miscarriage.
This is a really scary time; I know, I've been there more than once. I also have 4 healthy children so all that worry now just seems like a bad memory.
I hope that is what it will for you too soon and that you get the result you want next week.

ditto what honkyponk said.

do you know how many mm the baby measured? over 7mm or so you should be seeing a heartbeat.

not seeing ovary is normal.
cyst is normal.
not bleeding yet despite miscarriage is normal too Sad

they are very careful with early pregnancy and will rescan in a week or so if there is even the slightest chance of everything being ok. what have they said happens next for you?

try not to get too hung up on dates this early as measurements can be quite inaccurate when you are measuring something smaller than a cm. and you can never be quite sure when implantation occured.

sorry for crap typing, on my phone. and sorry you are going through this crap time Sad

The estimate of number of weeks of pregnancy is always taken from your period not the date of ovulation. You should be about eight weeks as you said, and it sounds like your cycle is fairly regular? The only way to know for sure is at your next appointment, which must seem like such a long way away. Is your partner able to go to the appointment with you for support?

kirstymay · 18/12/2012 19:50

they think the baby is measuring at 5mm long, i have really strange cycles sometimes they are 28 days sometimes upto 40 days, i have been doing ovulation tests aswell and we have been trying for 8 months, my patner has taken the day off and his work are on the understanding he might need a few days off, on the scan you could see the black circle bit and a white blob of sorts in the circle to one side, the pregnancy is on the right side of the uterus but its not eptopic as thats what they suspected, if i am 8 weeks then its not going to be good new as they have already told me the baby is not big enough to be 8 weeks along :( thanks for all the encouragment and support, i will update when i find out whats going on xx

Kirsty, I am really sorry you are going through this. I had 2 missed mc's before I fell pg this time. Both times I did not start to bleed, have cramps or any other symptoms of mc until several weeks after the baby had died actually with my second it was nearly 5 weeks after. I was positive I was 10.5 weeks, counting from the first day of my last period, but the baby was only measuring 6 weeks. They told me that under hospital policy they could not confirm it was a mc until I had come back in a week and seen whether the baby had grown anymore as there had been rare cases where women had got their dates wrong and the baby was several weeks less than they had thought. In my case I knew there was no way I could be only 6 weeks pg despite how desperate I was to believe there might be.

I really do hope that you get the positive scan you are hoping for in a weeks time. However, if you are sure the date of your last period was 17th October then I am afraid it may not be the outcome you want and you should try and prepare yourself for that. I clearly remember how terrible that weeks wait was and I really feel for you. I just tried to do whatever I could to distract myself including paining the kitchen!!

Look after yourself.
