At 8 weeks my symtoms are disapearing. I have had 3 miscarriages this year. 2 at 11 weeks.
Similar thing happened. My symtoms faded at 8 weeks and i then miscarried weeks later. Twice the sac got stuck in my uterus when coming out which was excurciating and had to be removed by forceps.

I expressed this to my doctor and she said they will only do a blood test. One now and one in a week. For me this is mental torture. Waiting a whole week to find out if i have mc. Why dont they just get me a scan. Espeicially because of my history. Im literally in tears right now im so anxious.

Why won't they do a scan? It seems unneccesarily mean to not put an end to the torture of not knowing. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru · 10/12/2012 16:42

Does your hospital have an early pregnancy unit that you could phone for advice? Hope everything is ok for you.

RoxyLady · 10/12/2012 16:44

Yes they do. Do you think they may help. My doctors just seem thy wont do more than that. Not bothered for my mental state at all

It can't hurt to ring them and they may be able to help

ArkadyRose · 10/12/2012 17:00

Sadly, I think the reason they won't do anything is because there's nothing to be done - there's no way you can stop a miscarriage at this stage, only wait for it to happen, and scans do cost a lot of money - far more than two blood tests - and scan departments tend to be very busy & overworked with diagnostic scans, particularly at this time of year it seems (my local hospital have told me they're ridiculously swamped with scan referrals this Christmas, far more than normal). Bear in mind they don't just do pregnancy scans but diagnostics for a whole range of issues including various types of cancer etc.

It may be that your GP has been told to cut back on "unnecessary" scans, particularly when otherwise you're talking about a wait of a week. I know it's very hard to be the one waiting, but sadly it's not viewed as a medical emergency or priority - they can't stop it from happening, so no point in spending money on it just to confirm what a week & two blood tests will do cheaper. It all comes down to economics. I know it shouldn't do, but right now hospitals and PCTs really do have to prioritise their budgets.

RoxyLady · 10/12/2012 17:01

I rang them abd thy said they cant do self referal. Only to be done through my doctor. So i guess im stuffed. I think this is really awful. Id understand if this is my first pregnancy but this is after 3 distressful miscarriages

They have early pregnancy unit only scan for early pregnancies. So that really doesnt wash with me. I pay my taxes. Infact i have private health care.... Would that make a difference?

BraveLilBear · 10/12/2012 17:05

Hi there, sorry you're going through this. I thought it was normal to be referred for specialist care after three miscarriages... Maybe this is something you can ask for, referral to a specialist? That way if the worst does happen, you might be able to be under consultant care next time.

Fx everything is fine, but still, understand your worry and frustration.

Another option is to pay for a private scan? I know they can be expensive, but it might resolve things quicker.

MisselthwaiteManor · 10/12/2012 17:08

ask to see a different GP, keep asking until they will help you. I completely understand how you're feeling, I have several MCs behind me too. I wish you the very best of luck.

sundaesundae · 10/12/2012 17:08

if you have private healthcare why not see if GP will do a private referral or book a scan and pay for it privately?

Unfortunately the usual criteria for an early scan via epau is pain/bleeding or both. The clinics are full of women who are in pain or bleeding with threatened/happening miscarriages or ectopics.

Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do, take the blood tests and hope.

MisselthwaiteManor · 10/12/2012 17:09

if you're desperate you can always take yourself to A&E with 'cramping' and get someone at the hospital to send you for a scan

RileyTheLittleMonster · 10/12/2012 19:04

Wow, that's a shock! Doctors don't care, i'd do what icicle said... If they won't do anything take it into you own hands.

Congratulation and Good luck Xmas Smile

TTCmay · 10/12/2012 20:27

Can u pay for a scan? Was £100 well spent for me - I worked out "per day reassurance cost" to justify.

NHS is all about budgets and resources - they take the "there's nothing we can do" and don't think about mental and emotional ramifications on the women (I have had 2mc this year, so understand the anxiety.

Good luck.

Rhubarb78 · 10/12/2012 20:33

I agree with ttcmay I paid for an early scan for reassurance and it was well worth it, they can often fit you in at short notice. Most of the centres that do 3d scans will do reassurance ones.

cogitosum · 10/12/2012 20:37

Where are you as I got private scan for £45 which is cheaper than I've seen elsewhere at benenden hospital in Kent

EPAU.co.uk/

I hate the nhs attitude to miscarriage. I know there's nothing they can do and it's common etc but I found some of the people (particularly drs) do heartless and my experience was made worse by that.

cogitosum · 10/12/2012 20:38

Oh and really sorry you're going through this and fingers crossed for you

Haggisfish · 10/12/2012 20:47

I went to the one cogito linked to and they were fab - cheap and really good reassurance on the spot.

SkinnyMarinkADink · 10/12/2012 21:06

I wouldn't usually recommend telling fibs as they tempt fate, however in your case to put your mind at ease i would call your early pregnancy unit and say you have had a bit of bleeding and due to your history need a scan.

Our epu only does scans if there's bleeding, i know lying is wrong but the stress your going through is far worse.

cogitosum · 10/12/2012 21:09

My only concern about lying is if their investigations would be different in the worse case scenario if it was another mmc without bleeding.

growyourown77 · 10/12/2012 21:13

I agree,. if you cant afford private scan, then go to A&E and make a fuss or push for a 2nd opinion at your doctors and ask for a referral to the EPU. ou deserve to know.

Nicky1306 · 10/12/2012 22:01

That doesn't seem right.
When I had my mc I had a scan at EPU to confirm I had miscarried, then I was given two options, pass the foetus naturally and then have a scan two weeks later to make sure everything had gone. Or option two was the surgical route of having a ERPC I chose option two and was operated on two days later.
Sorry to hear you are going through this, I would definitely give your EPU a call and see if they can see you.
Big hugs x x x

RoxyLady · 10/12/2012 22:48

Thankyou all. Im going to pay for a private scan. Ringing them first thing tomorrow.
Almost certain im not preg now. Im so distressed
Ill post in here to let you know the outcome.

LaCiccolina · 10/12/2012 22:53

I lost one at 11wks. I was told to see the early preg unit etc and was given a pregnancy test. It came back negative. It meant I at least knew the hormones had gone which meant it was already over, I then obvs had to go through the rest but it stopped me hoping. It meant I had more time to get my head round it, well as much as u can anyway....

I dunno if anyone's suggested that as worth doing? I hope I've not barked up the wrong tree here entirely. I wish u much love and future luck x

LaCiccolina · 10/12/2012 22:56

It was a bog standard clear blue test. That's it.

RoxyLady · 10/12/2012 23:09

Thanks but id have to wait another week before my hcg levels dropped. That to me is torture
