Well both my babies were heavier than that and fitted easily into the newborn sizes at birth.

I agree with elf about the parent size not being related to the baby size. I am 5ft4 and a size 10, DH is 5ft10 and skinny (weighs about 10 stone, slight build etc) and we managed to produce a 9lb10 boy and then an 8lb12 girl.

This actually supports the theory about birth weight of parents because despite being an average to small adult I was 9lb5 at birth. Neither of my children are big now, DD at age 22 months is still in 12-18 clothes.

Heavier than rummum's DD I meant.

MummyToToby · 29/03/2006 16:51

gem13 on what basis did MW make the estimation of your DS' predicted weight?

obsterician at hospital was really accurate at estimating dd weight! had been sent by midwife as she was concerned as baby seemed to have stopped growing, he took one look at me said its ok baby will be between 5 and 8 pounds! she was 5lb6oz so he was right! he wasnt concerned as my whole family are small as was her fathers! she was tiny until about 3 months ago when she had a huge growth spurt and missed out a whole age range of clothes

I'm five foot tall with size three feet. Both babies were six something. DD2 was on course to be bigger but emerged (of her own accord) at 37+5.

Mosschops30 · 30/03/2006 16:28

I'm 5'7 with size 3-4 feet. The consultant told me I had a large baby and a lot of amniotic fluid. The midwife told me this was a load of rubbish and ds would be about 7 1/2lb .... guess who was right!
ds was 7lb 8oz no problems with excess fluid or otherwise

Munz · 30/03/2006 17:05

i'm 5'2 DH is 6'3 he weighed 8lb 2 I weighed 7lb 5 (2 weeks ealy)

Joey turned up 9 days early weighing 7lb exactly. apparently it follows the female line not the male for abby sizes etc.

I was told he'd be a big baby - (at least 7.5 - 8.5lb)

spacedonkey · 30/03/2006 17:22

I'm 5 foot 9 with size 8 feet and both my babies were 9 pounders

dd is now 5 foot 10 with size 10 feet!!

jalopy · 30/03/2006 18:06

I'm 5'6" (pre-pregnancy weight 8 stone 4lbs) size 6 feet. Three babies - all nearly 10lbs each. Three c-sections despite labouring to 9cm with two of them. All posterior presentations too. Didn't manage to push 'em out.

tassis · 30/03/2006 18:40

I'm just under 6 foot and at my 12 week booking appointment the height measuring thingy on the wall didn't go up high enough.

I mean, do tall women not get pregnant??!

I used to think tall people had smaller bumps too, but at only 15 weeks I'm feeling ENORMOUS!!

Gem13 · 31/03/2006 18:44

MummyToToby - I'd been pretty small all along but during the last 2 weeks I turned into a sumo wrestler.

I think she was also desperate to tell me I would be 'average'! DH is 6'2 (I'm 5'7) and we were both 8'10 at birth and late so I didn't think a 7 pounder was likely!
