Pregnant despite mirena coil

Hi all.
Yesterday I discovered I was pregnant, despite having the mirena coil. I swiftly had it removed.
What can I expect now? Is miscarriage inevitable and imminent? Any experience of this on here? Hospital vague. And I'm freaking out a little over whole thing 😳
Thanks ladies

You need to make sure it isn't an ectopic pregnancy. So will need a scan asap!

Iris7 · 30/09/2012 07:34

Thanks yes I've got one tomorrow.
If its not eptopic am I still likely to miscarry?

And if i don't, are the stats bad for probs/ abnormalities concieving with mirena?
I'm 38 in December (so no spring chicken!)

X

I'm sorry, I don't know if you are more likely to miscarry. Hopefully someone will be along soon to answer that better.

Iris7 · 30/09/2012 09:17

Thank you differentnameforthis Smile

That's ok. Hope you get some answers soon.

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday with my 10 month old "mirena coil" niece.

Get it checked out but try not to worry.

the main problems seem to be linked to continuing a pregnancy with the mirena still in place

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/09/2012 11:54

Will come back later when on computer rather than phone, but just to say my mirena pg is now 6, and sitting at the bottom of the stairs found something on the iPad.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/09/2012 11:55

Playing something, not found, damn my fat fingers and autocorrect.

Iris7 · 30/09/2012 13:41

Thanks guys. Was it a "normal" pregnancy?!

This terrifies me. How did you know you were pregnant. I dont have periods on the mirena

Lottapianos · 30/09/2012 13:43

Jesus Christ you are all scaring me! Is the pill more effective than Mirena? Hope all is ok for you OP

Cadmum · 30/09/2012 14:46

We have good friends with a six year old 'Mirena baby'. The coil was lodged in the uterine lining (as seen on all scans) but could not be removed until 6 months AFTER safe delivery of baby.

Best wishes for tomorrow and beyond.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/09/2012 15:34

Sorry to report that I did not know I was.pg until 18 weeks, because no periods formonths. I started expanding. That is what gave it away Grin

SoHHKB · 30/09/2012 15:40

I'm 25 weeks having conceived with a copper coil in place. Once it was removed, I was advised that it's a 'normal' pregnancy apart from the shock Wink
No idea about mirena influence but best of luck Smile

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/09/2012 16:04

My pregnancy was also normal

Iris7 · 30/09/2012 17:37

Wow thanks guys! Very informative!! Still in major shock tbh. Can't believe it's happening. How did I know? Felt fat and had a bit of spotting. When I did test I didn't think for one minute that I'd be seriously preggers!

Hi I too found out I'm preg despite the mirena coil in situ i have 4 children and this is my 8th preg I was in shock. Had a scan and can't see anything so gotta keep an eye on hormone levels to see if it's in uterus or eptopic or I'm miscarrying. I hate not knowing. We decided no more kids but my hubby and I would welcome a surprise baby with as much love as others but it's the not knowing and especially seeing it's most likely not going to happen but it may!!! Doc said if it's eptopic which is a 50% chance that means coil has done it's job !!! And I may reabsorb it. Will know more tomorrow hopefully :-(

chryssa · 19/06/2013 22:46

Good luck for tomorrow.

I found out I am pregnant and I have a copper coil. Has been really stressful, I am having my second scan tomorrow, so I should know tomorrow too. Baby clearly not planned but really wanted now!

MrsKSeveride · 19/06/2013 22:56

I'm currently 33 weeks with a "mirena" baby. My coil was removed at 15 weeks or so.

I have had a happy healthy pregnancy. I wish the same for you. Smile

Fairy130389 · 20/06/2013 11:51

I appreciate it was nearly 30 years ago but my DH was a coil baby! good luck! x

Slightlyshocked · 26/07/2013 22:55

Hi again mine all went a bit pear shaped as the evening I wrote the above post I ended up in a&e bleeding internally as it was eptopic. Early the following morning I had emergency surgery to remove the baby and fallopion tube. All very scary but all over now and I'm almost healed. ( sorry to scare anyone) but nice to see some that make it xx
