I actually winced when I read your OP! No way will you want to use tampons directly after the birth. You'll probably have some stitches and your labia will be very swollen and uncomfortable so the possibility of actually getting a dry cottonwolly thing in there is just about nil. Plus as others have said, you'll need to keep an eye on how much blood you're losing, so pads are good for that.

My birth was relatively straighforward but my poor old fanjo was still throbbing and sore for a good few weeks. It wasn't awful though, just uncomfortable and all went back to normal within a couple of months.

I am simultaneously thankful and terrified by all the advice and sharing of experiences.

You're absolutely right to want to care for your fanjo. Treat her well and she'll treat you well (I mean that - for no discernible reason, sex has been MUCH better since I had DS1 8 years ago. Seriously )
