Bedside crib, anyone got one? Looking for a good deal and struggling...

I am 33 wks and this is about the last thing on my list to get for dc2, I want a co-sleeping crib rather than a cot that will last 6 months, then I can move dd out into a regular bed and use.

There are a few out there but so expensive and I keep missing out on ones on ebay or they are not in my area and pick up only.

I am not an NCT member, do they do member offers on their really expensive ones?

I looked at the nests and really wanted one but couldn't justify the high cost for six months use of worth. Someone on here said they got this: www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90115997/

And so I did too and although baby has yet to use it - or in fact be born (34 weeks) it's fitted to the same height as our bed and I managed to assemble it easily with one side off. It's also got longevity for toddler age. Result!

Adjusts to two heights and one side comes off.

i am looking for co sleeper too - also put off by ridiculous cost - i had notived alot of people have adapted other things...

ikea one looks good i wonder if it can be adapted for other heights?

John Lewis do one for £160 called 'Troll Bedside Crib'. It has good reviews, not sure how long it would be until LO would outgrow it though.

I think most cot beds you are able to set the matterss at the same height as your own bed and the able to take the side of iyswim.

We have an Ikea cot that has 2 pre-drilled heights and is designed to be used as a toddler bed by taking off one side when they get older.

We just drilled some more holes to make it the right height to match our mattress and took off the side and have it pushed hard up against our bed. The mattress of the cot needs to be pushed over a tad so that there is no gaps, but a rolled up- towel down the other side works perfectly to fill the gap it leaves.

Hey presto now its a a cheap and cheerful co-sleeper that is also a cot and a bed til they are about 4 :)

We have the Ikea Malm bed for ourselves and the Ikea Guliver cot for DD. She spent her first 6 months in bed with us but we have now moved her "into her cot". By that I mean, we adjusted cot height to our bed height (it just about fits), took cot side off and pushed the two together. We still effectively co-sleep while getting her used to her own bed AND enjoy having the space in our bed back!

I got a second hand bed nest from eBay and it's great but it wasn't cheap, even second hand. My justification was that they clearly hold their value so I could always sell it on once I'm done with it.
If something is collection only on eBay but too far away could you arrange for it to be collected by a courier?

I was despairing of having given away out old Cossatto bedside cot as hardly anywhere seems to sell them. But I found a post on here recommending lookin on Germna Amazon..... BabyBay (over £200 in UK) works out just over £100 including shipping from Germany. We have just ordered a Fabimax bedside cot including mattress for about £99 including shipping (with a little help from Google to translate as my German is more on the 'can I have a beer' level). It's bigger than the BabyBay so will hopefully last longer (DH thinks this baby is not going to be co-sleeping for as long as his or her older brothers but he's not the one that has to feed it in the middle of the night )

I got a second hand Troll co sleeper crib for half the rrp (£80 instead of £160) on Gumtree. I agree these things do seem to have quite high resale value so could be worth buying even at full price then selling afterwards.

My DS is 6 weeks old and when we brought him home he would not go in his Moses at night - we were so tired

Someone recommended the nct bednest and I was a bit reluctant because of the £290 price tag as i only paid £20 for my second hand moses but I was so sleep deprived and desperate I bought it when he was two weeks old

It was worth every single penny and then some - its fantastic and he goes down in it no problem at all. The first couple of nights were a bit unsettled while he got used to the new space/smell but after that zero problem!

Cannot recommend it highly enough if you can afford it and the second hands ones on eBay seem to go for good money so you'll get a fair bit back.

Looking back actually I was so tired I would have paid anything to get some sleep

I have the Saplings space saver crib as an alternative to the Ikea one mentioned above, as I didn't have enough space for that one.

We put it up without the dropside, and planned to drill new holes for the base to make it the same height as our bed, although it turned out that one of the pre-drilled holes was exactly the right height.

hi Tinker, that is what I am planning to do I think. Could you tell me, is your cot the Gulliver (with bars all the way round) or the Sundvik (with solid ends and bars at the sides)? Thanks

Dora, thanks, I am really interested now in the maxi babybay because it is that bit larger (we are both tall and dd is 99.6 for height and weight so good chance another long baby) and also there is one for 144 euro's with some of the extras, I'm so tempted but still struggling even with the translated pages to know what I am doing! With impatientwino's comments it is quite compelling because resale would mean that I would get most of it back, they are going for tons on ebay. Its just a question of my figuring out Germany's Amazon and getting the confidence to place the order.

Weirdly, mine is German too. I got it for dd2 and have just assembled it for dd3. The company that does them mostly sell on eBay in this country. About £100 and it's brilliant. Personally I took all the faff off it, as it's not my thing, but I'm sure that might be an added attraction for some people!

Hi sedgieloo and doraemon did ordering/delivery from germany work out ok for you?

We've got the east coast bamboo cotbed that we just left the drop side off of! DH was going to drill holes to make it the same height as our bed but then it turned out that the highest setting was only 1cm lower anyway so we left it! DS slept in it against our bed until I started find feet in my face at 3am so we put the dropside on & move it away a little & he's now at 11m & it's still working well for us! :-)

If you do decide to fling money at the problem, the BedNest is fantastic. So easy to use, great design... just very expensive. I am keeping mine for next DC so hope I will be able to flog it for a decent amount after that. Having said that, it has gone out on loan to 2 friends with babies since DC1 outgrew it - both times they just bought a new mattress, as none of us were cool about secondhand mattresses, and so it has been well used!

I've just seen the bednest is for use up to 6 months. Did you continue to co-sleep after that time, and if so did you have to use something different?
