Hi, so i'm now over 8 weeks pregnant and i think its about time we told our parents, thing is my parents live in a different town to me, my husband and my in-laws so we can't just invite them all round....
should we call up my parents and then tell my husbands parents face to face or do the phone calls after, it's our first child and i don't want to offend anyone!

Send a copy of the scan in a card and write something cute in it (ie hi granny and grandad can't wait to see you in 7 months) to both sets of grandparents and wait for them to contact you, then you can't offend anyone as you have told them the same way at the same time. Oh and congratulations.

I'm 9 wks and I've told my mum and sister, but no one else. We'll tell DH's family after the 12-wk scan. It's my first too and I waited until I could tell my mum in person (I told my sister, who's too far away to tell in person a few weeks earlier on the phone and swore her to secrecy). It was totally worth waiting to tell my mum in person and I really wanted to see her face and physical reaction (both of which were brilliant and I'll remember forever).

Can you somehow engineer a meet-up with your parents to tell them in person? Then you can tell your DH's family in person afterwards. For some reason, for me there was no question of telling my sister and my mum as soon as I could after I found out and it was important to me they know before my husband's family. But, I'm really close to my sister and mum.

Oh, and don't be worried. Everyone will be thrilled. It seems it's impossible for people not to be. If I'd known it was this easy to make my mum and sister so happy I would have got up the duff years ago!
