Newborn clothes - size advice

I've been lent a lot of newborn and 0-3 clothes for my LO due in about a month, which is great. (Unfortunately my MiL is going to give me a lot of hassle about putting our (probable) girl in "boy's clothes" - like it matters! - and will probably rush out to buy pink and frilly stuff that I will have to hope gets badly puked or pooed on. :() Anyway, I'd like to buy some clothes myself, preferably unisex just in case they were wrong at the scan, and I really like Next's Animal Brights range. But I'm confused about the sizing; instead of newborn and then 0-3 months, etc., they have first size, up to 1 month, up to 3 months, and I don't know what's best to buy. I had a scan this week and they reckoned LO will be about 8 lb, maybe a bit less, for what it's worth.

I need those stripy dungarees! That's the nicest unisex outfit I've seen.

Dd has the sleepsuit in that pattern and just looks divine. i will be keeping it for if we have another dc

I've bought some things from the Animal Brights range and they are gorgeous. I have the dungarees and am going to put them on my baby for his/her going home outfit - they are my favourite item of clothing I've bought so far.

I've bought 1st size, as I was expecting Next to be generous with the sizing as usual, but they do look rather small compared with newborn size sleep suits I bought from Next 3 years ago for DS. DS was 6lb5oz when he was born and the newborn size sleep suits were hanging off him for about 2 weeks. They probably lasted him about 2 months, so hopefully these ones being a bit smaller sized won't matter.

One thing to watch out for is Next have brought out their Autumn/Winter range now and the Animal Brights stuff isn't in it. You can still buy it for now, but I don't know how long for, or if they will replenish anything that goes out of stock. I desperately want the stripy blanket, but it is sold out :(

DD is 12 days old. 8lbs at birth but very long (53cm). She's about 8lbs 8oz now. The Next 'up to 1 month' babygrows are already looking snug on her length ways and I think we'll be lucky to get another week out of them. They are plenty roomy enough otherwise though so if you have a shorther baby then you'll likely get more wear out of them.

I have some things from the Animal Brights range in 0-3. We didn't know we were having a girl so just bought a few neutral items to get us started and then I went nuts in the Next sale online yesterday and bought loads of lovely girl things
